what is the correct spelling? is it whopping (as in BK Whopper (this is how you pronounce it btw)) or whooping (as in Woopie Goldberg)? i see it spelled both ways on various forums and i need to know. Im sure there are other terms i'd like settled, but this one came to mind first.

Two different words.

Whop- to hit hard, to whack
Whoop- a shout or exclamation (usually of joy); to cough spasmodically

I believe "whoop" is a sporting term as in "France whooped Wales at the weekend" or "Ireland whooped England" etc etc.

That would be whopped - Ireland would have whooped for joy at the result, but England got whopped.

In America, one can say "England got whooped."

"I'm going to whoop your butt."  It's slang though.

I used the word "whopping" twice today, once in real life, and once at JMA.
