Subject: Uploads limit........
Date Posted: January 08 2011 at 17:34
Hi.
I have reached the 5 MB limits of my uploads and is required to remove pictures. So I go to my personal profile and finds the upload and removal place where I am supposed to remove my uploads. Problem is........ Most of my uploads is album covers, band pictures and pictures that is large chunk of an artist profile..... In other words; it is not my private stuff, but the uploads limit says it is my private stuff. I am now in the situation where I cannot add photos to interviews and cannot add more albums covers. How does this work and how do I move around it so I can still upload album cover art and pictures for interviews ? Please help.

You are going to have to upload to the main site somehow. M@X will have to fix this for you probably using the ftp software.

Not to discriminate anyone........ but it is probably quite logical that a Collab/Prog Reviewer/SC is uploading and adding more albums (Read: album art work) than Newbies. I suggest a system of different uploads limits for these memberships.

Uploading album covers is different htough. that goes into the main datrabase. you are talking about the forum where your interviews are kept.

OK...... let me see if my one and a half brain cells get this right: I upload an album cover = the image gets duplicated into the main data base at the same time as it still remains as my private uploads on my upload account which is now full ? The duplication means I can go ahead and erase album covers ? If yes, please let me know = I will erase and get below that 5 MB limit again. I am not particular keen on going on a PA vandalism spree by erasing images I thought is only my private ones.

Ok let me understand.
These album covers are in the forum displayed or in the artists database?

Yes, they are. Let's say Genesis "Selling England By The Pound" as an example. The art work is both displayed in the album and artist profile at the same time as being listed in the uploading PA member's private uploads folder, the 5 MB limit folder. The clue here is to not erase the cover from the artist and album profile at the same time as getting below the 5 mb limit again.

Ok no answer yet.
If they are in the artists pages of the database...which I don't know how is possible anyway...delete one and check what happens. We can fix any eventuallity.
If they are in the forum where your interviews are I'm almost certain the images will disappear. Which is why M@X needs to sort out some alternative arrangemant for you.

It shouldn't be in your folder. delete it now and see what happens. I can upload a new one if it dissapears.

I tried to delete five different images and got the 500 error - internal data base error. The images are still in my box and I am stucked on 5.17 MB. Hence, I am chess mate in this game.

I have raised this as a bug so many times now I am relieved to see I am not alone. mailto:M@X" rel="nofollow - M@X very kindly increased a while ago the upload limit for 5Mb but no matter how often I try to create more space, you cannot delete your images. Good luck finding a solution where I have failed. I even raised the issue with mailto:M@X" rel="nofollow - M@X on the latest ' Server Upgrade" thread

^ Not so. M@X fixed the deleting issue after the previous upgrade. I did delete some stuff. Since the server upgrade recently some old problems seem to be back. Patience.

Torodd, do you have a link to an album cover that is also in your personal folder? The cover images in the main database are uploaded when they are added, it is not possible to provide a link to an external image there. As far as the main database is concerned, the forum image upload is also an 'external source'. If you have a link to one example, I can check to verify that this is still true (no need to think it has changed), and to see if we can clean up your storage.

We can't delete from our folders anyway so no space will be made. Let's get that fixed first.

Can I also suggest that the busiest beavers in this dam, from Prog Reviewers and up, get a more workable upload limit (30 MB ?) than the new newbie/senior/groupie beavers ?

Did a quick check. All images used for covers in the database are uploaded to the server and renamed to 'cover_xxxx', where xxx is a large number. No images from forum storage are used directly, so it's safe to delete. However, due to a server error, the delete function does not work, this has to be checked by M@X (notified by Easy Livin already).
As for Torrods question: I think it could be useful to have additional storage space for uploading of pictures used for example with interviews. An alternative would be to set up a photobucket or similar account for that, but that would create a dependency to an external site, which has obvious downsides. As far as I can tell, it is not possible to set individual quota for storage, so M@X will have to look into this as well.

I have a couple of giga bytes I can use from my own server. But I would prefer it if I got some MBs extra and an own space on the server designated at Interviews and/or included in the same server space as covers. I can assure you this year will be busy when it comes to interviews. I also have some albums which needs to be included in the database. The figure 30 MB was just a figure I fished out of the water and not to be taken too serious.

Another question, M@x.
The interview pictures and stuff should be included in the central database as the album covers are now. Hence, that means I can keep the limit to max 5 MB if you arrange that. I am not exactly uploading holiday pictures, big fish pictures and Playboy bunnies to PA. Can a rule for the interview pictures and uploads be added ?

You now have twice the space to upload too.
I don't know what you mean by a rule being added, but it must be feasible for you to upload to the database and create a link from there. Well...it may be possible, but could be complex. Meanwhile you have loads of space to carry on.

An Aupex EP ART WORK that is + the track list. Not music. http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=32135" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=32135 As I, being a reasonable clever IT guy myself, can see it, this is logical. To upload an album, you have to first route it through the personal folder. If that folder is full, or in my case overflowing, you cannot upload the album. It is like driving from M1 in England through B 898 over to M3. If B 898 is blocked by a lorry, you cannot get to M3 even if M3 has a perfeft traffic flow. I understand this.

Sorry, but you are wrong. You don't put anything in your personal folder to add an album. I never have and no one else has.

Your personal folder is fir the forum only. If you are adding album art you directly upload from your hard drive to the main database when you go to add albums. Or if you go through the Admin page.
Honestly anyone will tell you the same. Try deleting it now from your folder and you will see it is still there, because it has to be uploaded elsewhere too.
I presume when you say "route it through your folder" you mean upload it to your folder?
