I can't stand Fischer's vocals, they are so annoying. Never could get into him.

Have you read the book Songs In the Key Of Z by Irwin Chusid? It covers a number of outsider musicians including Fischer, Captain Beefheart, the Shaggs, Jandek, Daniel Johnston, Wesley Willis and more. There's also an album of the same title that goes with it.

I have a somewhat large interest in artists and bands like this. I am a huge fan of Captain Beefheart, Wesley Willis, Jandek, The Shaggs, Frank Zappa, Little Fyodor, Philemon Arthur and the Dung and, if I may say so myself, The Residents, Snakefinger and Renaldo & The Loaf.

Never heard of the book and BIG thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Speaking of Captain Beefheart, How could I forget about The
Residents?!

How about The Rudy Schwartz Project? This one might be quite hard to find.
And again this is for mature audience.

The Cherry Sisters
Now don't confuse the Cherry Sisters and the Sherry Sisters. The former never recorded (apart from a 1901 acetate which has gone missing), and all we have to remember them by are their (uniformly negative) reviews.

Oops! My goof-up! I still don't have that book but I misread the band name on the video.

You can probably order the book from Amazon or through your local bookstore. (I ordered my copy at Borders.) As for the CD, I lucked out and found it used for $5 in a record store. In mint condition even.

I'll check the local outlets or I'll special order it. Thanks.
Now, about Joe Meek:
This Wiki looks interesting. Too bad for his sad and tragic end though.
The tributes and references include Dave Stewart of Egg, Hatfield And The North, etc...

What the hell, a few more from Coop while he lived in Detroit:
Actually, Easy Action is a kick ass album. Way before its time...in a backwards manner.

I consider myself a distanced observer rather than a fan and I'm sure GG's fine with that.
Warning: Profanity and hatered.
Back in the 1980's this guy would visit all the record stores in Boston & Cambridge (where mine was), and drop off copies of his records to sell (he didn't expect any money). No one ever bought any.

How about a prog-rock musician who also is an "out there" performer? The performances of Mani Neumeier, drummer of Guru Guru, are legendary; here are some excerpts from one of them:
