When you review a 60s album, do you compare it to the competition of its day?   Or do you judge it by today's standards and disregard whether it was "groundbreaking" at the time?

Do you believe one method is more proper than the other in terms of PA's ratings?  Why or why not?

When it comes to rating, I really don't take 'innovation' in account I think. But I do (try to) mention it in the review. I belong to the people who take more in account the review more and rather careless for the rating, if you know what I mean.

No vote, since I really don't know if what I think is in either option.

I strongly believe that you should not bump up your rating of an album because it was "innovative" at the time. If you perceive a uniqueness that you think other people might like, but you do not find personally appealing, then that is fair, but it often seems as if people will increase their rating of an album by a star because it's "important". This is especially upsetting when the impression is not historically accurate (I'm looking at you, In the Court of the Crimson King).

I only rate/judge them by how they sound to me, where would you put that?
