Queen, quite comfortably. Before they got boring from News of the World onwards, they made a whole bunch of fabulous albums that would give a run for its money to even Gabriel-Genesis at least for my taste, let alone post-Gab.

Queen, Queen, a thousand times Queen.  I happen to love their 80s output as well, and Innuendo is a masterpiece, plain and simple.

Amen!  I love putting on Hot Space and just reveling in the glorious wrongness of it.  Amazing music with an admittedly misguided aim, but totally enjoyable and a worthy entry in the Queen canon.

The Game is also a favorite, although my absolute favorite album from the entire 80s is The Works.

Also, if we're counting Queen material from 74 onwards, that includes Queen II, which is one of the finest, most eclectic prog albums ever made.  I'll take it over Genesis any day, pre-or-post 1976.

Okay.  Rant complete.  For now.  Wink

Queen rules compared to post-Hackett Genesis. But I find Trick and Wind to be very excellent albums and millions times better then any album after that. So if those 2 were not counted Queen, if those 2 were all we were counting, well its close. I didn't vote.

Considering I hate Queen, I love early Collins Genesis (A Trick of the Tail, Wind & Wuthering), this was a no-brainer. I mean Wind & Wuthering is one of my favorite albums of all-time. Like I'm going to pick a band like Queen over Genesis. I DON'T THINK SO!!!

Screw the singles! Genesis sold out. As far as I'm concerned, there was no Genesis post-1976. Genesis' A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering were two albums that Queen WISHED they could have made. They simply lacked the musical skills and intellect.

Well, maybe they wanted to make "pop" albums. I find them all terribly disturbed to throw their talents out the window. I seriously thought they needed medication for making such an uncreative decision, especially Phil Collins who gave up his God given drumming ability to play "pop" music. Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford were just along for the ride. Collins killed that band with his pop star delusions.

Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford have said many times before that all three of them wanted to move on to pop. I mean,
some of their popiest songs are written by them! And what the hell is so wrong with them going pop? They made some of the best pop music of all time!

I seriously doubt the guys in Queen wished they made something like W&W instead of A Night At The Opera and other assorted iconic rock & pop tunes.
Musically, skillwise, Queen are probably the stronger band...certainly vocally.

Why?

That's preposterous. I can see why one wouldn't enjoy Queen's music, but questioning their musical talents is silly. Very few bands would be able to convincingly perform a song like Bohemian Rhapsody. Not to mention that as songwriters, Genesis without Peter Gabriel were vastly inferior to Queen. And I say that despite potentially preferring Trick over any Queen album.

They never threw their talents out the window. But when the songs you write become less complex (a good decision considering disasters like "One for the Vine"), doesn't it make sense to simplify your playing? Instrumental skills are fine and all, but they mean nothing if you don't have good songs.

Now that's just not true.

You really mean that YOU wish Queen had made an album like W&W.  I don't, no 70s Queen is as sleepy as W&W.  Don't know much about their 80s work, which I have largely avoided.  And I highly doubt Queen wish they could swap A Day at The Races or Jazz with those albums, let alone Queen II or Night at the Opera.

Since it is Genesis post Gabriel, although I did enjoy "Then there were Three", I lean towards Queen.  I really enjoyed Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, and Night at the Opera at that time.

Nice Vangelis reference Raccoon!  China was one of my favorites.

Actually, I may have to retract what I said earlier. I'm currently on a listening spree of Duke, Abacab and Genesis. And while I find them all consistent, they all have a number of tracks I really love. Duke may be a four-star album, the other two are three stars. And I like Trick a lot anyway (W&W not so much). I still don't know how Queen compares to this because I'm not very familiar with most of their albums, but I might be starting to prefer the Genesis singles (A Trick of the Tail, Follow You Follow Me, Turn It On Again, Duchess, Misunderstanding, Abacab, Man on the Corner, Mama, That's All, Home by the Sea, Land of Confusion, Jesus He Knows Me).

But as it is here it's Queen and not even close.

This is a tough one for me.  Queen was the first rock band I ever got into.  And Genesis overall is my favorite band and the Collins-led era has produced some excellent prog and even occasionally some excellent pop.  They've also put out a few steaming piles, but then so have Queen.  This is almost like asking me to choose between my right and left leg.

As to the discussion about Cosmos Rocks, I liked the album too, although I wish there were a couple more May songs and that Taylor and May had done the album without an outside vocalist.  But it was cool having an album made up of over half Taylor songs.

1-  ATOTT & W&W
2.- Early Queen
3.- Middle Queen
4.- Late Queen
5.- Anything except 3 men Genesis

So I won't vote because would be giving an undeserved point to 3 men Genesis that IMNO harmed the good name of the best Prog band ever.

I would gladly eat broken glass before listening 3 men Genesis
