this is about the non-prog bands
what do you know of the general rock and pop scenes (in respectivly Denmark, Sweden and Norway), whom sing in both english and native language,
their is alot of good music that iss not progressive which comes from Scandinavia, I know less about Denmarks music scene, the others do I have a certain knowledge of
in Norway we have a strong rock, troubadour and pop scene many great band's here are my favouites

their is a music scene outside of the prog scene which in my opinion deserves as much attention as the progbands, many of the band listed have their own special sound

Some swedish non-prog stuff I like: Södra Bergens Balalaikor (bunch of swedes playing Russian folk music, but they sing some in swedish) Mats Gustafsson (freely improvised saxophone stuff) Bob Hund (Indie Pop with some Synth and Punk influences) Philemon Arthur & The Dung (two guys playing Dadaish, very funny little songs about weird stuff. Sort of folkish) Jan Johansson (Jazz pianist most famous for playing Jazz-renditions of old folk songs) Bathory (very early Black Metal band) Defleshed (Death/Thrash Metal) Repugnant (fantastic Death Metal with a very old-school vibe) Some norwegian non-prog stuff I like: Hild Sofie Tafjord (Electroacoustic/Drone/Noise artist, she plays French Horn) Maja Ratkje (in the same vein as Hild Sofie Tafjord, but she's a vocalist and is not quite as Drone inspired) SPUNK (Hild Sofie Tafjord and Maja Ratkje's Noise/Avant Garde Jazz band) Burzum (great Atmospheric Black Metal, at least Hvis Lyset Tar Oss) Darkthrone (fantastic Black Metal, very raw) Some danish non-prog stuff I like: Poul Ruders (awesome Modern Classical) There's more probably. |
