Wow... been away for quite a while, and forgot about some rules. When is an album considered a boxset/compilation, and when is it an EP or album?

I think Edensong's Echoes of Edensong should be an album rather than a boxset/collection. It contains three new songs, and three live tracks, one of which is a live rendition of one of the new tracks. So, out of 6 tracks, only 2 are 'old'....

EDIT: note that the 'new' tracks are new in the sense that they have never been released before. As with other Edensong material, they've been worked on and lying around for a few years before being put on an album.

Nevermind. Re-reading the album leaflet I received, it's definitely a compilation. The tracks are all older, unreleased material and live performances.

There is a thread about these formats somewhere in the Collaborator's Zone, I'll dig it up if you want to (I think it's a sticky one anyway).

From the band's site:
"full length, part studio, part live album featuring "Beneath the Tide" (both a new studio recording and live from 3RP), "Lorelai," originally from the Haiti Projekt, a re-mastered "To See But Not Believe" and more. "

Changed it to "studio album". We already have similar cases, for instance "Watch" by MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND.

It seems the term "regular" album" (i.e. containing new material) is better than "studio album". ELP's "Pictures at an Exibition" and mentioned "Watch" are good examples.
From the other hand, if some band re-records their songs in the studio, it is studio album, but not regular one.
Though I'm afraid to start this discussion in the forum because I'm not sure it will have its end. Smile

Sorry, guys. I have not seen your posts while I was typing mine.
Turned "Echoes of Edensong" back to compilations.
