Don't remind me.
But we couldn't protect Collaros at all, so that was a big part of the problem. Before that game though, he was 36-0 since playing QB in high school, which is mighty impressive.

I'd also like to say I wish Brian Kelly nothing but the worst in his career at Notre Dame (sorry to any Irish fans ). I wouldn't be so bitter about it if he hadn't betrayed his players and the fans like most other college coaches do at the drop of a hat. I know it's his dream job, but still...

Gave up? No. Jordan Jefferson just doesn't have the brains to be a QB. He and his backup, Jarrett Lee, have some of the same issues: they like to pick a go-to receiver and ignore the rest of the field. In Jarrett Lee's case, he throws picks. In Jordan Jefferson's case, he takes 30-yard sacks. I've heard that Jarrett Lee is much improved, but I haven't seen him on the field. Jordan Jefferson clearly has not improved.
Anyway, you know what pisses me off? People think that because Boise beat 1 team on a lucky first quarter (predicated upon the inexperience of VTs squad), they are somehow a top 5 team. Worse, an ESPN poll (not scientific, I know) found that 62% of the population thought that Boise should go to the national championship if they win out REGARDLESS OF OTHER TEAM'S ACHIEVEMENTS. But what if Miami wins out? They not only have to face VT (Boise's crowning achievement, a 3-point win helped along by dubious officiating), they also face Ohio State, GT, and FSU (for the ones currently ranked) as well as UNC and Pitt (ranked preseason, lost first games). Boise plays a bunch of mid-majors while Miama chows through a half dozen top-25 teams. Would you rather see an undefeated Boise or an undefeated Miami in the BCS National Championship? Yeah, I thought so.
f**king Boise.

Oh no, they just bit off a little more than they could chew.
Nevertheless, at the rate we're going, Boise will have faced not a single top-25 team in their entire schedule. If you want to look at the spread on their best win, Boise should be just about as good as James Madison.

Alabama down to South Carolina 21-9 at the half. That'll be sort of a shocker.
I am watching the battle Michigan - Michigan State battle. So far, MSU is out front 17-10 early in the 3rd quarter. I am hoping for a Michigan win, but have become more neutral in the big game in my old age. I used to be a rabid Michigan fan in my youth.

Ugh....why just because of their conference? Yeah, they play in a weak weak conference but they have proven they have a good team year in and year out and remember when they beat Oklahoma a few years back? I wouldn't say the Sooners are a slouch.

^ They beat Oregon last year and Oregon State and Virgina this year. People outside the West don't realize there are some pretty good players and programs out here. It cracks me up how the SEC gets all the hype when most them schedule 4 D1-AA and lower non BCS conference teams for their OCC and claim its because they play 8 of the toughest games in the country in their conference. Yeah? Prove it. Start playing 3 OCC games against BCS conferences and lets see how you do. No one knows how good you are outside of your own conference. IT doesn't help the reputation when Auburn and Georgia just canceled home and home with UCLA and Oregon respectively. Guess they saw what happened to Tennessee the last three years playing those teams and decided to play NE Louisiana Tech instead. Every BCS conference schedule is tough. You have to play and win on the road. I don't see the SEC having that monopoly anymore. As for the Boise's and Utah's of the world sure there lower conference games are pretty easy but I have noticed these teams don't shy aways from playing anyone anywhere. Right now a Boise Oregon Championship game sounds like a whole lot of fun.

Oh we all know the reasons $$$
Not to mention ta general conservative nature that does not want to see the end of the bowl system. I'm cool with using rankings through the season, like the top 12 then playoffs from there. I heard that once and it seems reasonable, since while the order is the devil I'd say the top 12 (or 10) are pretty much accurate.
It also eliminates the small school problem. If they go undefeated they will be in the top 10/12 then have the chance to prove if they can handle it. They make it through the playoffs, obviously they deserve it.
I honestly think Boise St is capable of playing with a lot of the big teams.
As for the bowl games, which are traditional and bring in big $ (this is why we have all these junk bowl games now) well all these smart people can figure something out.

Boise is not a bad team. They just aren't a great team. They go undefeated by playing Tallulah High School 10 games per season. Were they in the SEC, they may go 8-4 or 9-3 -- not great, really, but not bad. They're certainly too good for the WAC, and that's why they're leaving it next year (going to the MWC). Who knows, maybe the MWC will emerge as a legitimate contender -- they're already arguably better than the Big East. Still, it will be nice when Boise gets to play Utah, TCU, and Air Force every year and then has to pick at least one good out-of-conference game. Nevada is their only competition in the WAC, and Nevada isn't particularly good -- though Nevada is also joining the MWC in 2012!
Garion81 wrote:

Virginia Tech, you mean. Who turned around and lost to a Div I-AA team the next week. And Oregon State, who is all of 4-3. Oh, and if you take away the first quarter of the game against VT, they were soundly beaten. I daresay that were they to play VT again, they'd lose by three touchdowns, and I don't even think VT is a great team.

There have been 12 BCS championship games. 6 of them have included SEC teams. Every single time an SEC team was allowed to play in the National Championship game, they won. The SEC is 6-0, you see, and because of this, no other conference has a winning record. In fact, if the BCS vacates USC's win (Reggie Bush was ineligible for that blowout), then every other conference would have a losing record.

I still don't trust Oregon. They win on offense, and if there's anything we know about football, it's the old adage: offense wins games, defense wins championships. Reminds me of the Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss bowl game. You wouldn't believe how many bets I won on that game.

Evan Royster (who stayed at Penn State despite being projected as a 2nd round pick) has had a difficult year running. Mainly due to the young O-Line. Regardless he's closing in on the all time Penn State rushing record. Would be nice if he could get it tonight, prime time against Michigan

And it is done! Congrats to Evan Royster. Penn States all time rushing leader, and accomplished in prime time.

Edit: Wow! PSU is a young team, and hopefully this game will be the motivation to get them going. Havn't ran it this well all year. Hell, the last few years they've been so finesse, can't believe they're using power running finally!

Oregon and Boise State aren`t bad teams, duh, for a state with a population smaller than most mid sized cities ( Idaho ) it is great to have a team which receives national recognition. Haters are just going to hate, the sec.......so what, and Boise State is a lot of fun to watch.

Fair enough. And can't disagree with that at all. I was glad to see them running with some power today.

I would suspect there is not a college football coach in America right now who would not give Boise state some respect no matter what conference they play in, they have not folded yet even when they play so called superior teams in high stake bowl games.

Exactly.
They could play with many "major" schools I am sure.

"Could play with many" is a far cry from the best or second-best team in the nation, which the pollsters would have you believe.

Penn State plays Northwestern soon.
Should be a good game for JoePa's 400th win!
lol even as Big Ten get much better this year Northwestern is still not good

Damn, Big Ten is just beating up on each other this year...
Also if Michigan can ever get a defense they'd be unstoppable They'll put 40 on ya almost no question, but will probably allow you to put 40 on them. These games are exciting though I guess

Michigan and Illinois are tied 45 to 45 and are now in overtime. Michigan's defense is horrible.

But yeah, I was watching that game, they are honestly terrible. If you guys could get one though And I'm so used to Northwestern being awful I never looked into the for this year. They're surprisingly good this year actually!
Big Ten is getting feisty

They got a sack on the two-point conversion and pulled out the pitcher's duel 67 to 65. Sounds like a basketball score.

How does Auburn have a tougher schedule than Oregon? I don't see it. You can't say it is because they are in the SEC when the SEC only schedules division 1-AA teams as their out of conference games. It is the lamest argument I have ever heard by a conference that because our conference is so strong we have to schedule easy teams in our OOC. Completely ridiculous. I have no respect for that statement especially when both Auburn and Georgia canceled home and homes with UCLA and Oregon respectively. There are two or three good teams in that conference period. All BCS conference games are tough it doesn't matter which conference. Oregon won in Tennessee this year what was Auburn's best OOC game? Clemson?

Yeah that game was insane. Imagine if Michigan could actually put together a defense, along with that offense that seems to put up 40 points without even trying? Good lord!
And win #400 for JoePa. And in typical fashion he eschewed all talk of himself or excitement about it, instead talking about the win and what a good job the team did. After the game you could see the honest respect the players have for him. Gotta love it.

Sorry...SEC is the strongest conference in NCAA football.....regardless.
Best game of the NCAA season just ended in Death Valley.
LSU 24
Alabama 21
Now LSU becomes Alabama's best fan.....LSU needs for Alabama to beat Auburn.
I grew up in So Cal....I am a big USC Trojan fan....football and baseball...since I was about 10. I have also lived in Alabama and Louisiana...There is no comparing Westcoast football with football in the South. If I am not mistaken this win by LSU gives them 4 wins against 4 ranked teams.
Oregon is playing UW right now...I expect the score to be like 85-14....really?

Well, I'd agree SEC is the best conference year in and out. Doesn't mean other teams/conferences can be disregarded but yes.

Even if I didn't go there, and had no affiliation what so ever, I think I'd at least respect Penn State and JoePa.
What a legend and good man he is.
Also team seems to be improving as the year has gone on, especially in the O-Line which was woeful when the season began.

Just because you say so huh? So lame. Same old argument. Listen to the logic. 4 ranked teams that are all in the SEC. See how this works? A few years ago maybe but no longer. Just because it is more popular does not mean it is better. Just because it is more hyped it doesn't make it better. You have three teams all in the west division that are very good but not head and shoulders above any one elses top 3. Again play someone outside of your conference and then talk. There are 3 hotbeds of football in the country Florida, Texas and California. .i will put our California players up against any of the other two states anytime.

Actually they played Arizona State. #16 Arizona played Stanford and Stanford kicked their ass. Pretty much points out how the rest of the country sees the teams in the west. I really would like to see Alabama play Stanford and see how that works. Alas the SEC teams can't play real OOC opponents because their conference just too good. BTW you do realize USC has had sanctions against its program and cannot participate for a bowl? Their demise will make every program in the west better.
Just so you know I am a UCLA fan not a USC fan.

PSU actually beating OSU at the moment
This was a young team, and they seem to be improving every game, especially the O-line. Also this new QB is a much better passer.

LSU lost by a TD in an away game. We'll see how it goes for Auburn. Schedules were similar. In the end, Auburn wins the head-to-head because Bama lost to the Gamecocks, but if you're looking for a better team down the stretch, it's hard to say. I might rank LSU ahead of Auburn, but I would never put Boise ahead of Bama, LSU, or Auburn, either.

Auburn 28
Alabama 27
Auburn is the #1 Team in the country after this performance....and Cam Newton is the Heisman winner hands down.
I would hate to have to play anyone in the SEC.....

Yes, Cam is certainly one hell of a player. Shame he's in all this trouble over something it seems his dad was responsible for (let's face it, a kid is gunna take the money and it'd be tough to go against your father).

^ Yea....maybe I should have said he "can" win the Heisman......if any of that turns out to be true he should not be votable material.....it would be bad for him to go thru what Bush went thru and have it taken away. Leave Auburn and go sign a huge NFL contract and leave all that mess behind.....Does look like his father was the roots of all that stuff.
