| My pleasure. I'm a definite 'newbie' around here ... but "Wishbone Ash" will always catch my eye! It seems to be a name I don't see here too often. I don't think I'd quite define WA as "progressive", but on the other hand just what definition would one give them!? |

| I voted early this morning but had to abruptly leave so I didn't leave a thread. Wishbone's first release gets my nod. "Handy and "Phoenix" are my favs. No question Argus is thier best. |

So ... why do you think this Wishbone Ash poll is so little noticed? Is Wishbone Ash really that obscure a band? Are they really so Non "progressive" that few patrons of this site know them - or will bother to comment? Or might there be some other "housekeeping" reason I'm too recent to have learned yet? I'm just sayin' ... |

Really like all the first three albums and I'd probably agree with the debut being second to Argus, but Pilgrimage needs some love so I voted for that.. Vas Das, The Pilgrim, Lullabye, Alone and Valediction are all excellent tracks. Of those, it's got to be the superb There's the Rub. Solid rockers, two teriffic, slower numbers in Lady Jay and Persephone, and a rock-solid sound (the bass is especially clear). Album closer FUBB is a funky, feel-good instrumental epic.
 Just a great album all around -- I've been playing it steadily since it came out!
 The others through to IV are quite good, too, but I think New England deserves more notice. Locked In and Front Page News were major disappointments -- I never did replace my old vinyl copies. Only one worthy number between them, as I recall. ------------- "And, has thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!' He chortled in his joy. |

I like all those listed with a preference for Pilgrimage (Vas Dis is a great track and very progressive, too). Front Page News has "Surface to Air" that's another great and Wishbone Four has a great rock 'n roll song like "No Easy Road". I can find at least 1 great track in each of them, but Argus is unbeatable. ------------- I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. | Pilgrimage for me is more closely related to the style of Argus. The first album is a must but, I loathe the production. I hate that aspect because it ruins the album for me. New England has some beautiful songwriting like "In All Of My Dreams" for example and a dark romantic kind of ballad about an Island (forget title). Some of the rockers on New England are very intense and bring back the Argus style. The Frampton/Walsh talk-box kills it for me. Or whatever that God forsaken thing was called......You stuck the ridiculous thing in your mouth or throat. Like a visit to the doctor. You then become Mr. talk-box. I was so used to hearing Frampton play guitar with a more serious approach, like on Humble Pie "Rockin' the Fillmore". But yes folks.....the Ash incorporate that talk-box effect on New England and they really didn't need to. The think it's a great album! |
