Per capita means that for example when country Germany has about 430 bands here and its population is about 81 million, then for every 183.000 people, there is one Prog band. Numbers are rough though, but they illustrate well what I'm trying to tell.

The bigger country is, the better condition is for Prog (assuming that country has relatively free, democratic society). So small country like Czech Republic is quite handicaped to something like Germany.

I don't hope that there will ever be 430 bands from Czech Republic on ProgArchives, but I can't help but notice that one year ago, in 2009, there were 20 Czech bands. Now, we have 32 bands here. This spring, I helped with listening Czech music, doing research on my home's music scene, suggesting bands, finding samples (myspace, youtube, etc), gathering information, writing some biographies and writing also a lot of reviews for Czech albums.

It's important for me, so I do care. Cooperating with few people who knows something about Czech scene too.

My dream is to put number of our bands up to let's say 60. Do you think it's possible ? It shouldn't be so difficult, as Czech Republic is quite unexplored territory.

well since we don't discriminate, I'm sure more Czech bands will be added if deemed Prog.. it may take awhile to reach 60 but that's what we're here for

:-) I'm always glad when someone not from here can appreciate our music. I once read an article where writer said that even we have many  thousands of Pop-Rock, Metal bands, they have zero to little appeal to foreign listeners. Because they are already tens of thousands of bands like these in foreign countries.

However, what we call Alternative here in Czech, which often equals what we call Prog here on PA, it's the stuff that has chance to attract listeners, to appeal.

It's some kind of crusade for telling people that our music scene is worth of listening.

In Czech Republic, it's 1/320.000. It's lowering exponentially.

Uwe, I suppose that situation for Prog artists in Germany is quite well. Of course, I'm guessing, but it should be right. But mathematically speaking, you will have tough time to lower it to let's say 1/100.000 (maybe it's even impossible).

Do anyone think that it's possible to have this ? One Prog band for 100.000 ? And actually, what is the biggest density for Prog bands.

USA - 277.000 people / 1 PA listed band
UK   - 83.000 people / 1 PA listed band

Of course, UK is cradle of Prog.
