Alright so, NOFX is absolutely a punk band.  And in being a punk band (definitely the best punk band in my opinion) they serve as the polar opposite (or anti) of progressive music.  That said, NOFX released an EP in 1999 called "The Decline."  The CD consists of just one 18 minute song... the title track, "The Decline."

I didn't think it was possible to merge the two genres (For the purposes of simplifying it here the genres are "Punk" and "Prog Rock").  But NOFX did it masterfully.  They actuallly made an epic song that while undoubtedly punk, also managed to get really progressive with their arrangement and their musicianship.  Has anyone else here heard this song?  I'm interested to hear what prog guys think of it.

Just to note: Since the band is not in the archives, this shouldn't be in a Prog lounge (and if it was it would be better suited to another Prog forum).  I'll move this to General Music Discussions as it certainly doesn't seem that you're suggesting it for PA inclusion despite the EP.  I don't really know it myself.

Well, if I may...

It is a progressive song, so in my opinion fits just fine right here in the Prog lounge but thats just me.

Otherwise I'd love to suggest this EP for PA, I would be happy to be the first to review it here.

It's just the way things are set up here: see http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13082 - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13082

As for proposing the EP, well, unfortunately because this is not an album-based site (artists/ bands are included), and we don't have an applicable album-based category, I couldn't see it getting included based on the EP (the band would have to be added, unless it's a concept album or something in which case we might get into the VA category).  NOFX has a considerable discography.

This is an excellent piece. I grew up listening to a lot of NOFX and to this day I still really enjoy some of their stuff.

did you listen to any punk jazz ?
Some recommendations : James Chance and the Contortions, Lounge Lizards, Nomeansno.

One band that tag themselves as psychedelic pop but actually melt punk and prog are Cardiacs.

Also, a lot of hardcore bands could be of interest to progheads : today is the day, an albatross, melvins, candiria, electric masada, melt banana, orchid, refused, dillinger escape plan, yakuza, the locust, tusk...

I've got the EP but I haven't listened to it much. I think it was pretty cool, but my memories of it are very vague. Perhaps I'll listen to it tomorrow.

The Decline is awesome.

 18 minutes of punk bliss.

personally, every day on a bus to school the cd spun.

It definitely crosses boundaries.

I'm soooo glad someone mentions that incredible EP. I really love NOFX and that must be the album/EP I listen to the most. If I remember well, it is also the favorite album/EP from one member of the band.
