Alright, being that pop music is not popular within proggies at all, I figured I'd like to know what your favorite pop record is. Nothing that is on this site is permitted, so that means no Beatles, Moody Blues, etc.
So make your decision
Here's mine:

Billy Joel - Songs in the Attic Fiona Apple - Tidal Heather Nova - Oyster 10.000 Maniacs - The Wishing Chair Joe Jackson - Look Sharp Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
Just to name a few...

I'm actually a huge Billy Joel fan! He just makes such sophisticated and awesome pop music, so I would need to pick something from him!

Me too J-man, I love everything from Streetlight all to way to 52nd Street. Didn't like the 80s much though.

I'm cheating a little perhaps, cos it's kinda alternative rock too, but what the hey. Honestly, I thought I'd hate this band completely, but I've found myself listening to this album literally everyday for the last 2 months. At first I felt kinda embarrassed for liking this, but honestly I don't care anymore and even some of my metalhead elitist friends know I like this now lol. Some of the songs are just so ridiculously catchy I want to commit suicide knowing I could never write music that sticks in yer brain this good. Pretty good musicianship as well.

^And a cute, young singer (who can actually sing pretty well!)
What qualifies as pop here? I like a lot of Indie pop like of Montreal and stuff.

If we go down the Indie road then I suppose I better introduce my favourite Indie album as well then...
I don't care how sophisticated you think it is. I love it for its grittiness and old fashioned english atmosphere.

Hmmm, I never got into the arctic monkeys. Maybe I'll try again. Here are some I've been bangin' lately:
St. Vincent - Actor & Marry Me
of Montreal - Hissing Fauna... & Satanic Panic in the Attic
Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
Belle and Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister & Dear Catastorphe Waitress
etc.

Smashing Pumpkins stretches the definition of pop a bit too far I think Stoney. My sister was a huge fan, so I've heard most of their stuff countless numbers of times, always came across as alt rock more than anything.

I have a few favorite pop rock (key word: rock) albums, but one that immediately springs to mind is:
This isn't straight up pop, it's alternative rock, but it qualifies as a "pop album" because it was popular, dur...anyway, IMO, it's a masterpiece of alt rock. And it's one of the few albums where I've thoroughly enjoyed each track.

No love for ABBA yet? I must admit I used to like Arrival a lot … but today songs like When I Kissed the Tiger and I am the Teacher not only bore me, but downright annoy me. Though I still think No More Pee, No More Pooh is a good song.
Does Sting count? If so, my pick is The Dream of the Blue Turtles. It’s probably too close to prog, though.

If there's laffs to be had then they're on me
But no, I love good Pop and this is as good as it gets in my book; I also love fine production and Andy Hill did a superb job on all BF's songs; When We Were Young is a great 4 minute pop-prog epic; And yes, Sinfield wrote Land Of Make Believe, not that I'm a fan of his lyrics (especially after what he did to PFM on Photos Of Ghosts and The World Became The World).
...and I had a crush on Cheryl Baker in the 80s

My then girlfriend's sister bought it and i straight away thought of SHA - only seeing the cover in the posts here made me think of it again- must be nearly 30 years ago now I'd guess.
