Pancromatic Records, in collaboration with Termo Records, have released Wobbler's latest album "Afterglow" and The Opium Cartel's debut "Night Blooms" on vinyl. Both LPs come with a thick gatefold sleeve and 180g vinyl. The sound is superb! The Opium Cartel LP is augmented with a slightly different track list - two of the CD tracks have been switched for two new tracks, "July 1983" and "Lumberjack's Lullaby", the latter an instrumental featuring blistering guitar playing from fusion great Scott McGill. Both LPs are available from Termo's web shop: http://termo.myshopify.com/ - http://termo.myshopify.com/ In October there will also be a first ever vinyl edition of White Willow's 1st album "Ignis Fatuus" (currently out of print on CD), a double LP which will feature a 13 minute bonus track from the original sessions.

On a general level, is there still sufficient interest in such vinyl releases to make them worthwhile?
Forum members- Do you get excited about albums like these (i.e. albums which were not originally released during the vinyl era) being released in this format?
Just curious.

Sure ... I already have about 50 recently released albums on vinyl. From the standpoint of a collector I would definitely prefer vinyl over CD.

Well, from a label point of view, the vinyl market is growing, while the CD market is diminishing, so it's a bit of a no-brainer for us. Also, the vinyl cutting technology has come a long way. Those 180 g LPs sound truly outstanding - with a good turntable you get a much more satisfying listening experience than with a CD. IMHO.

^ I still think that's largely placebo/wishful thinking, but sometimes I'll put on a vinyl and the sound quality is really amazing. Still, for some albums I prefer listening to the CD ... for example Tool - Lateralus. The quality clearly suffers for those long drawn sounds - even on a 10000 EUR/$ turntable you'll never have the precision of the CD as far as RPM and (merchanical) distortion are concerned.

True, it depends on the kind of music. But for lush, symphonic stuff, the softer high frequencies of vinyl is flattering.
