Dick Heath has already written a double review of this book together with Nicholosn's book about Jazz Rock , but this 2005 edition of the book is so good it deserves a post on his own. I repost his both reviews here, which are quite detailled and which you should read first:

He gives in an overview and analysis of the state of jazz which is according to the polemic title obviously not where most expect it to be!
