Dick Heath has already written a double review of this book together with Nicholosn's book about Jazz Rock , but this 2005 edition of the book is so good it deserves a post on his own.  I repost his both reviews here, which are quite detailled and which you should read first:

I agree completely with Dick, and excellent read one of the best music books I've read! it's written inacademic style and not an easy read, but once you see where he's heading it's highly rewarding. He gives in an overview and analysis of the state of jazz which is according to the polemic title obviously not where most expect it to be!

Tadpoles keep screaming in my ear
"Hey there! Rotter's Club!
Explain the meaning of this song and share it"
