I read in a forum that there have been bands deleted from the archives. Is it possible to see the bands no longer listed? It may be interesting to clarify if an artist is missing for addition or it has been deleted. Thanks

I think there's only ever been two at the most, and they were a long time ago. They were deleted soon after they were added, and our processes changed. I can't remember who they were now.

Nowadays, it is highly unlikey that a band once added would be removed again due to the robust nature of the admission processes used by our teams.

I don't think we're talking just two, Bob. Wink

We currently have "4.088 bands & artists" in PA, according to the front page statistic.

Yet the id count for the last added band is 4.307 (David's Lodgers).

Since this id count is specifically designed for a band's entry (webpage), I think we're talking about approximately 200-210 bands/artists who have been deleted, have dissapeared or I don't know what else, but anyway they aren't on PA (anymore).

Sure, we can exclude accidental double entries (in which case the entry was deleted, but the count couldn't be reset), but I still think something happened to at least the abovementioned number of artists.

We certainly have not removed that sort of number Vic. I think the missing numbers must be down to technicalities such as duplications and internal testing. The only person who can actually delete a band is mailto:M@x - M@x .

Hm...

Well, a statistic of how many bands we "lost" on the way would be nice to know, even if in numbers only.

^ I think the numbering all went to peices when we rebuilt the database after the infamous hack of '07 - there's no way we've lost or deleted 200 bands.

Anyway - the WayBack Machine is the best bet ( http://www.archive.org/index.php - http://www.archive.org/index.php )  - though searching through it is difficult and time consuming.

Man...PA looked... um... different from what it has become.  That's really amazing to see.

I think there was another band in a similar vein that was deleted soon after addition.. I think it was Katatonia. And then, there have been cases of early entries in the DB that have been done away with during some genre team's cleanup, though I don't remember the names now.

Have not some bands merged too?

I mean those that may have had two entries 'cause they changed their name but are primarily the same band?

I cannot think of an example for the moment.

Syzygy had a different name though and released an album under their first name.

Kaleidoscope become Fairfield Parlour, and appear under a single heading here. Not sure if they were ever separate though.

I'm pretty sure Neutral Milk Hotel was added and quickly deleted a while back as well.  And there have been a couple of April 1 additions (wasn't Mariah Carey added one April)?

I seem to recall that Arcade Fire were here for a short while, but were subsequently deleted.

very interesting website -  i looked at PA from March 2006 when i joined, looks very different to today, though "Selling England...." is still listed as most popular album, and Sean Trane is still most prolific reviewer !  Smile

Wasn't he moved to Related, instead of being deleted?

It's not Greg Lake, but a band called Lake, formerly in Symphonic, and then found out by the Symph team to be not even prog-related.
