Thanks all PA members I've got a senior member. At this opportunity, please let me say as follows... (If this thread is not appropriate for this forum, please pardon me and move this thread.)
I've been a progressive rock fan for several years and ProgArchives could suggest me many kinds of progressive rock genres and bands. I appreciate all administrators and members here letting me know lots about progressive rock world.
Under that reason, I consider my feedback for PA can be my duty. Namely, writing at least one review per one day is now my delightful work here.
Necessary to re-listen to an album enough well for writing a review, then I always feel that I can re-find the greatness and identity of the album. Can't help feeling my favour with progressive rock world...
Hope you all and I will enjoy PA together FOREVER!

Hi Damo keep up the good work man. Your so right when you say you learn more about an album when you review it.

Thanks memowakeman and sinkadotentree, the Experts!
I'm very glad I can write more reviews and everyone here can read and understand them...
BTW, which do you think better, bein' a general progger or bein' a specialist?

If my opinion counts - seek out as many varieties as possible. Furthermore; indulge in some non-prog material from time to time too (reviews of that stuff you can publish at www.rateyourmusic for instance). Start out easy by choosing one in five as a choice in unknown musical/prog territories perhaps?
Overindulging in one particular brand or style of music may often lead to one tiring of that after a while; but when covering more ground you'll appreciate what you like even more, in time your appreciation of other styles will grow - and listening to varied forms of music will also help in finding words, phrases and descriptions of the music you enjoy most.
I would also suggest reviewing some of the releases from the BIG list of unreviewed albums from time to time: http://www.progarchives.com/UnreviewedAlbums.asp - http://www.progarchives.com/UnreviewedAlbums.asp

I read a few of your reviews and have to say that you have an accurate grasp of the music. I've written a few dumb reviews since started here ( only a few ) . I particularily like your scope of bands and was suprised with the Ache and FRUUP reviews .
If it means anything here's my advice with reviews.
I think the most important part is not to force yourself to write a review. Before writing reviews here I really didn't do much writing ( I was a math major in university ) and have learned a lot about myself and music through this review writing thing. In the beginning I found that sometimes I would write a review just for the sake of it and that's when things would go awry. fortunately I've gone back and corrected some of them but have left a few as they were just to remind myself of my mistakes. I have also found that not every review that I have written has turned out as I had intended, but some have suprised me after re-reading them a few days later and I say to myself : Did I really write that?I've also had the opportunity to write various band bios here which is something that I never thought I could do.
Skimming through the internet on various other sites from blogspots to youtube I've seen the stuff I've written being ripped off. At first it bugged me but now i just shrug it off and say to myself that's the problem of the guy who copied something that came from MY heart.
I just want to offer my words of encouragement. Keep going at it you're only going to get better. I'm going to go back and read all your reviews. They're a lot of fun to read.

I have been doing more reviews recently but I would like someone to show me some writing techinques since I am not from an English speaking country and it's been some time since I last took some English lessons. That would be really helpful.

Very glad! Thanks Vibrationbaby.
Always I listen to albums and try to write reviews as soon as possible.
Because I consider my feeling and impression at that moment is very important.
Certainly, as you say, I've not written so much and sometimes feel embarrassed by reading my previous reviews.
But I think it's okay my mistakes of previous reviews are my real impression just at that time.
Please give me advices in the future.

Nice.
No reason to apologize for not being aware of the plethora of releases on the unreviewed album list. Personally I may know about one out of 100 on that list - and most of the members here will struggle hard to find artists/releases they've heard about on that rather large list.
For being an underground genre, prog is a highly prolific one *laughs*

Absolutely, "prolific" is my thought too.
There're a few or more albums I know...but I found that one of my favourite albums has no review, unexpectedly.
Sooner I'll try to write.

When I was given my first steps in the progressive world PA helps a lot, and reviewers the same, some years ago, when i had no internet in my home I used to save the main page of PA and read in my house later on
And when I start my website about prog rock (www.progshine.com) I did the same, reviews, news etc

Albums already rated but not reviewed are included in the list.

When I started reviewing (elsewhere than here), I used to set up the reviews in a certain manner.
1. Introduction - a bit about the band. When they formed, where they are from; stuff like that. No need for many details in here, as the artists have a bio, but an introduction of sorts is usually a good idea.
2. A brief description of influences, stated versus the ones you are able to catch perhaps; a few comments on evolvements and changes from previous releases if applicable.
3. More full description of the music on the release you're reviewing. Stylistic traits, how likeable the songs are, major positives and negatives described.
4. Conclusion, perhaps with some mentions of possible target audiences for the album in particular and the artist in general.
It was a useful plan to follow when I started out - and might work for others as well.

Indeed - it is a nice way to structure it, as a basic foundation. But when hitting the flow when writing, variations will eventually be produced. As with most such structures it is meant as a tool to help focus the mind rather than a straitjacket that has to be followed to the letter :-)

Lazy days........... I have been listening to around one hundred prog rock albums since I last wrote a review for PA. Mostly just getting an impression of each album without going into great details. I guess I have around three hundred reviews I need to do now. But I will catch up before the end of the year......... The structure Windhawk use is highly recommended. I will try to stick to that myself......... help me God !
