I've recently come across a band named Praxis, which was formed in the early 90s by musician Bill Laswell using the then-unknown Buckethead and Brian "Brain" Mantia, P-Funk keyboardist Bernie Worrell as variety of guest musicians. The sound is a combination of nearly every main genre of music, blending rock, P-Funk grooves, electonica, hip-hop, jazz, heavy metal, and other styles fluidly. Their best album is undoubtedly their debut Transmutation (Mutatis Mutandis), which features contributions from bass legend Bootsy Collins and DJ AF Next Man Flip. The rest of their catalog is patchy, but they could easily fit into art rock or even Avant-prog. Any thoughts?

Love Praxis, but I think Transmutation (the only one with the complete line-up you mention) is the only one that can truly be considered prog, anymore than Bucketheads solo works can be considered prog. (I did see him play a Prog festival)

Yeah, perhaps, though i think Buckethead could be here as prog related. He's more avant-garde than Vai, who is on the site.

Agree on Vai, but I think he gets a free pass for his work with Zappa.

Buckethead did get a couple of votes but is still in discussion, as listed in the ratingfreak page.
