Roger Dean's artwork for Tales From Topographic Oceans (s http://www.rogerdean.com/upclose/topographic.htm - ee image on Roger Dean's site here ) is a little unusual for him in that the stars in the night sky are individually drawn and carefully positioned.

On other pictures Dean used a splatter technique to produce random star fields (eg the Fragile cover). So I assume that the star positions are very deliberate, however, with my (admittedly) limitted knowledge of astronomy I cannot match these star positions with any real constellations.

In the notes in his book Views for this picture (and in the text on the above web-link), Dean says that the whole cover picture is a code for patterns located elsewhere.

Does anyone know (I mean know - not spurious guessing) of the significance of the Star constellation layouts on TFTO?
