To every and all administrators...

My post about a "certain UK band" that has an album out on 9 April, that regretfully has already leaked on the net, was censored...

I assume that I violtated some PA rule, and I'm sorry for that.
Since the leaked files seems to come from a promo copy, as they have some message overdubbed on the songs, is there a way to help "the band" to keep this files from the public?

If so, let me know...

That's the problem with internet P2P ... once a file has been distributed, there's no way to remove it from the network.

I know...
Anyway, I'm on third listen today and I think I'll nut the CD, and sure I'll go ti the gig near me when they come in April...
Am I supposed to leave a rating for an unreleaserd CD?

You can, but you'll do all of us a favor if you wait till it's released... I'm no Admin but I find this discussion interesting and I've been an advocate for no-unreleased-reviews since I came... Not that I doubt your review would be honest and accurate, but let's try to do the best for PA's interests.

We acknowledge that some people will obtain new releases legitimately before their release date through promos, advance copies etc. What we cannot have is any discussion about leaks and their availability. Nor can we have any reference to having obtained an album via illegal means.

There are various threads regarding bootlegs, and even though we all love to have more and more music form our favourite bands, and nobody mention the origins of those recordings, WE ALL KNOW where they come from, and their degree of legality...
I understand that you don't want to encourage illegal downloading, and I won't mention any source here that can provide yet.unreleased music, but let me say something: I know what I like, but I cannot like what I don't know...
Thanks to "illegal" downloading I could discover bands that I didn' t even know existed, and in most cases I went further on and bought their CDs (I can name Moon Safari and Magic Pie), and I'm already waiting to BUY new releases from them as they are available because, being me, I like to possess the object.

On the other hand, sometimes these illegal "previews" spared me from buying a CD that I really didn't like, so I really caused no harm to band finances downloading a CD that I'd never have bought anyway (and which files were soon deleted from my hard disk) and saved money to buy something that really deserved my attention.

that's fine, what is moral to one isn't necesarily moral to the next .. but to be blunt.. this site is bigger than you or me or any of us.... you know the RIAA doesn't buy the 'play before you pay'  defense. Agree with or not.   Bobs first only concern is the integrety of the site, they close down sites  for that kind of stuff.

However you argue it,and no matter how you spin it,downloading music in this way is illegal and discussing it here is strictly forbidden. This policy is strictly enforced because the site could get shut down.

OK, I think I got the point.
I don't want PA to be closed down or whatever, so I won't speak of any illegal activity here nor anywhere else...
Feel free to close or delete this topic/discussion.
