I don't know about everyone else, but I'm so happy to have such a place where I have so many friends/friendly acquaintances. Just think, how many other places foster such brotherly love (and even beyond that Wink)? What makes this place so different from all other places?

Because everyone here that I've encountered is very similar in personality to me so I feel natural connection to some members.

And I see what you're getting at with the Wink... that wedding better be awesome. Wink

The people on this site when I first came on were very nice, not all forums are like this...I am currently banned from the Ultimate-Guitar forums for calling The Used a "sh*t boy band", and every single thread on that page is ridden with either "you're gay" or "shut up metal suxxorz emo is teh rox" responded to by "metal is f**king amazing f**k f**k f**k metal up your f**king ass emo is gay fag gay fag (I know these words are wrong but I'm trying to make a point)" etc.

In the three years I've been here, I've encountered some really nice people, made some genuine friends (OK they live thousands of miles away, but we are all to meet in summer ), learned to trade insults with new and exciting people, given and received advice, both musical and personal (although there are still those out there who consider 'The Sentinel' to be something other than a huge pile of rancid poo), tried (without success) to work out what's going on inside TLC's head , and accused perfect strangers of wearing everything on their heads from berets (hi Joren) to tea cosies (hi Stoney ).

Where else am I going to find anyone who actually cares who played sax in Zappa's band in '74, or whether Thjis Van Leer has spent the last 30 years eating pies?

In short, I hate you all - off!

Except for you, Stoney - off with brass ing knobs on, you !

Are you Neos talking to me, by chance?LOL Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it...Wink

Seriously, though, I've come to love this place for other reasons than the obvious oneWink. There are many people here who have similar ages and backgrounds to mine (one for all, Peter Rideout), and for this reason I find myself very much at ease when around them. Even the younger people, like the Velvet crew, are often much nicer and more mature than older ones (no names mentioned here, though I'd like to make a couple of examples.Tongue...).

I don't know whether it's really the friendliest place on the web, but my only previous experience as a longtime member of a forum was nowhere as positive as this one - though, in that case, the forum was based in Italy, so I got to meet many of the members (which led to a spectacular falling out at the end).

Well Stonebeard, thanks to Prog Archives I have enjoyed two great Prog Archives meetings (in my hometown The Hague with Joren, Alucard, Syzygy, Sean, Dutch Tony and Oliverstoned) and in Paris with Oliverstoned and Alucard (I was allowed to use his appartment Thumbs%20Up). On the other hand I had some heavy disputes and big clashes with fellow collaborators, I got so frustrated about it,  I decided to leave Prog Archives two times. But Prog Archives is my 'Freudian sofa' and my psychological mirror Wink so in the end I came back because it's such a great place to meet fellow progheads, to join threads, to write reviews and to hail the Mellotron Clap And in fact every I learn as much on Prog Archives from myself as during my work as a psychiatric nurse LOL !

I must say, I have had a much nicer experience here than every other forum. That's not to say I haven't had good experiences on others- I have, save the Genesis one (has everybody else heard what's going to happen to that forum??)- but I find the atmosphere much more relaxed.

There's just something about this site.I don't know, maybe it's the mutual respect, the humor and the hospitality that most members have for each other. My love for prog grew here. I learned (and still continue to learn) alot  about prog from this site, thanks to the collabs, specialists and to the members as well. This site also helps me forget the real world. Here, I can just escape the hustle of real life, relax, learn, meet new prog heads and just focus on the music. Simply amazing!

I came here for the music, but then I found the VR. The Velveteer's are awesome! Hug

The collaborators are doing a great job and the admins are friendly. I don't know this is a great website. Although it has gone a bit downhill recently and I'm not talking about band additions.

I have to admit that if it wasn't for the VR I might not be here anymore. Embarrassed

At times I things can be a little heated, but I think that usually stems from a misunderstanding of words rather than actual malevolent behavoir. I think it's pretty amazing and hopeful to see so many people, from such different cultural backgrounds getting along Smile We're like a UN that actually gets something done.

My participation as of late has been sporadic, but we certainly do have a friendly group here and that's why I still like to check in from time to time (I find myself mostly in the non-music discussion room and checking out news on new releases).

Progarchives is great because prog-music aficionados tend to be very good people  ... mature, respectful, etc. (there are some exceptions, I know, but they are few and far between).

I assume the forums here are as good as they are for that reason and also because the admins get rid of the "doodz teh prog is teh suxxors, " type of people, assuming those people come here in the first place. I've never seen any example of it, but that probably just means the admins are very efficient with that sort of a thing.

What started out as an experiment to enhance my hobby, has turned into something I never expected. I have never been a member of any forum, nor did I desire to be, but I had so many questions. So, almost a year ago, I joined up, and look at me now. This has been a great experience, and continues to be. The caliber of the people around here is exceptional. I have had many great exchanges here. Some of the most beneficial ones were arguments. That is how I met one of my best friends here (and wound up on the Symphonic Team ). There are also many others that I consider friends here. I didn't think it was possible to make real friends in cyberspace, but thank fully, I have been proven wrong.

To you all.

And

And a special one for Stonie, for starting this thread.

Going Loco down in Toddington... sounds fun.  I used to go to The Watercress Line (aka The Midhants Railway) a lot when younger, but haven't been there for years.  I also once went to Blunsdon (which isn't far from me) and had a look at the choochoo trains there too. Wink

He certainly used to have at Didcot; we used to work on his big boy together occasionally... so did Vicky! Sometimes there were anything up to 15 of us at it at the same time - once, we spent a whole week doing nothing but stripping down, ready for a bloody good service!

The U.S. is pretty large. We progheads are few, and spread out. It's tough to get together. I have yet to find another member that even lives in the same state (Michigan anyone?). There is a festival in Pennsylvania this summer. Perhaps some of us could get together there?

There are many great people here, many of which I talk to out of PA, we've definitely bonded, no doubt.

It would be fun to have a meet up of sorts, but like bhikku says the US is big, and I'm pretty far from most of the other American PA members (nearfest is a possibility i guess...). I may be in Germany next year though, taking some classes, so if anyone is interested in meeting up then...Wink

Anyways, this forum is the best I ever participated in. I think the reason this place stays sane is the big amount of adults that frequently post. Most forums are contaminated by 12 years old who only post nonsense. Even the youngsters here sound less stupid than everywhere else.

I made a lot of friends here that I regurlarly chat with out of PA. The half humorous / half serious nature of the forum is great. Most members are awesome and it's pretty peaceful.

Long live PA ! Hug

Sadly I don't have enough time to post and have as much fun as I want to, but this place is a really nice place to retreat from the hectic world outside and just chill and chat about whatever floats yer boat.

I still haven't met anyone either (Puerto Rico is only 35x100 miles), but I have two of my friends here at PA making reviews. ../Collaborators.asp?id=11771 - Invader Prog and ../Collaborators.asp?id=12125 - LeRomatikoliko are those two. Both were converted into prog by yours truly. Big%20smile

I don't have a car, but I'm not going to that that stop me.

We should get serious about this. Tickets go on sale at the end of the month.

I go back to visit family now and then.

How close are you to Detroit?

Don't forget Discipline. Matthew Parmenter and Tiles are Detroit area Prog Rockers. Maybe Eyestrings too!

Very close to Detroit Dan. I am in A2 (Ann Arbor to non Michiganders ). We get some good stuff through here, just not much prog. Although, I did get to see The Calfiornia Guitar Trio at The Ark last Year.

The U.S. is pretty large. We progheads are few, and spread out. It's tough to get together. I have yet to find another member that even lives in the same state (Michigan anyone?). There is a festival in Pennsylvania this summer. Perhaps some of us could get together there?

You know, HT, I might even grace you with my august presence on that occasion... I'd really like to attend that, even if it would require some planning on my part. Of course, I wouldn't be alone thereWink...

We Italians are few and far between, though I've managed to meet Andrea C. last June, and hope to meet the irrepressible Mandy ASAP!LOL
