Subject: Women rule - at least today

Today, on Feb 15th at 11:11 am the Lord Mayor of Cologne Germany officially surrendered the keys of the city hall to a bunch of women, who immediately cut off the ties of the Lord Mayor and his entourage and kissed them afterwards, after which they raided the city hall to continue their "bloody" work inside.
Yes, it is true. 11:11 am was the beginning of street carnival in Cologne. it will last until the midnight between the 20th and 21st and end with the burning of the so-called "Nubbel", an effigy that works as a kind of scapegoat. Someone dressed as a priest will hold a sermon, in which the Nubbel is accused of guiding us into temptation of sinning, with a long register of sins named for which he will be rightfully burned. And today is the day the women rule. No-one wearing a tie will be safe today, which is sometimes an unpleasant surprise for businnes men who are not familiar with the custom. Most foreign companies warn their employees though meanwhile.
The climax of the street carneval will be on monday with the traditional big parade (which of course starts at 11:11 am). It will attract 2 million watchers (yes, 2 million! And Cologne only has a population of 1 million). The parade will need somewhere between 3 and 4 hours to pass.
By the way, today was only the beginning of "street carnival". Carnival itself officially started on Nov 11th last year. No-one beats the people of Cologne when it comes down to carnival.

It is a symbolic castration. Men don't have a say today.

Good idea: wear a tie.
Bad idea: Walk around naked.

I can't speak for my whole country, but my girlfriend is in always in charge . Ever since I had to buy a vaccum cleaner, but I bought a Robotech action figure instead. I don't have troubles with this: women are smarter. They work in colaboration instead of working in competition, and that is advantage in nature; they are far more organized (well, everyone is more organized than me, but still), etc. I love women. As for me, they can be in charge any time.

Mmm.. a celebration such as this would be a very good thing in this country. As I said in the Vlevet room last night, yesterday I spent Valentine's day with a dear friend, and the way guys looked at her was absolutely irritating.

This year, Carnival starts tomorrow (17/02) and ends on Fat Tuesday (20/02). The following day is Ash Wednesday when Lent begins.

Carnival dates, each year, are related to Easter and so those dates are mobile too. Smile

In fact, although adopted by the Church, Carnival derives from an old Roman feast, the Saturnalia, which was full of excesses and depravation. However, the roots of Carnival may be traced millenia ago when ancient people celebrated the end of Winter.

that may be so in Brazil; in Cologne carnival starts on thursday. the street carnival, by the way, which is only the most visible part of it. the session carnival starts on Nov 11th at 11:11 am each year. no-one celebrates carnival as long as the inhabitants of Cologne. not for nothing it is called "the 5th season" here

Yep, it may vary from country to country, city to city, but apparently everywhere all Carnival celebration ends between Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday.

first of all; 11/11 is only the beginning of carnival in a certain area of Germany, the Rhineland. and second, that date was chosen because 11/11 is considered to be a "mad" number and carnival is considered to be the "mad season"

Yes - Oliverstoned is going to describe his own man/woman set up, which will be valve driven, connected with solid gold plugs & 1" thick cabling and costing in excess of €50,000... just for the "on" switch.

Very good.LOLLOL  However they are actually supprisingly low.  I think that the insurance premiums are only in the hundreds of pounds for our locomotives.  Probably because of all the training that goes in and the fact that we've got no women drivers.ShockedWink  Oops!LOL
