As we have all heard countless times (and seem to have to explain once day to someone protesting a band's admission to the site in PP or PR on the grounds that they aren't prog), PP and PR bands are NOT prog. Thus, it seems a contradiction in terms to have a five star rating available for these bands. How can a non-prog album be a masterpiece of PROG?

I can see it being an excellent addition to any prog music collection, as it is related to prog, but it can't be a masterpiece of prog if it's not prog in the first place...

Of course, if we added 4.5 stars (masterpiece of subgenre, but not masterpiece overall), they could be masterpieces of PROG RELATED or masterpieces of PROTO PROG without being actual masterpieces of PROG MUSIC.

But, back on topic, I strongly feel that the "masterpiece of prog" label should be reserved entirely for bands that actually are prog...

Divide the site between Prog and Prog-Related. Put Proto-Prog, Prog-Pop, Prog-Blues, Prog-Punk, Post-Rock and Prog-Electro under Related, and the true subgenres in prog.

Then draft diferent rating systems for both parts and do a Prog Top-List and a Prog-Related Top-List.

Though, from what I've heard, Post-Rock is more than prog related. Other than that, I agree.

I don't think is something which could be enforced from a technical point of view IPOF, at least not without a lot of work on the coding.

I agree though that the descriptions of the star ratings make it clear that an album by proto-prog or prog related band is unlikely to get a 5 star ratings. As they say though, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

There are possible exceptions to this though. The classifications represent the most suitable category for a band, even though they may have made an album or albums of another genre (Genesis are the obvious example). It is therefore possible for a band classified as Proto prog or Prog related to have made a prog album, which in turn may be considered by a reviewer to be a masterpiece of prog. As far as I am concerned, "Argus" by Wishbone Ash is an example of such a situation.
