I am not surprised how much bs is on this thread.
I'll be serious since I have to go to "her" in about 30 mins.
I am a cook at Sonic, fast food resturant. I got the job because I applied at about 20 jobs and chances are one had to call back. Also, in the interview the boss said he liked the way I talked, so I guess that helped.
Do I like it? Hell no. Is it hard? Hell yes. Do I get paid enough? Who on this earth does that is an honest worker does? $5.50, if you have to know.
Actually, I don't hate going to it, the work is very repetitive, unstimulating, and hard, but it beats watching tv, and having no one to talk to.

I'm a delivery driver. I get paid depending on how much I get delivered for the most part. Its pretty lame overall, I just put in my notice that I'm quitting and I have 2 jobs lined up, I'll either do security or work at a video game store, whichever fits into my school schedule better and pays more.

I work in a formulation lab for an Agchem company. At present this job sucks! Really sucks, and it's depressing me the amount of meetings, courses and Human Resources initiatives I'm being subjected to. They've just introduced a new way of calculating our annual pay rises too, which apparently saves the company millions every year. This inevitably means considerably less for us. I'm so happy for our fat b&stard shareholders..

I am a server (waiter), and have been in the restaurant business for over 20 years. I've been a busser, dishwasher, host, bartender, and manager. Hi Bob
Why not? When I was in the middle of my B.Sc. studies I already knew to which masters programs I will apply and which mentors I wanted to instruct me. I also knew I want to do a PhD (which was delayed a bit due to some reasons). In the masters studies I knew which universities and programs I will apply to for PhD. It's not that strange to start thinking ahead of the next step. It's not like I am commiting myself to one thing and that is it. I am thinking about where I want to go and what do I want to achieve and I set the current ground in order to get that. In biological sciences (at least where I am from) it is quite common to think ahead this way.

OK, now a serious reaction by me: I work as a psychiatric nurse since 1986, at this moment I guide mostly schizophrenic people but also people with personality disorders (mainly borderline) and addictions (no hard drugs but often soft drugs and alcohol). We try to stabilise and then search for a new balance. My work varies from therapeutical/supporting conversations to play football or organise a DVD music evening, for example Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Marillion of Taling Heads. It's almost moving to see how relaxing music (especially the more melodic rock and prog) is for mentally ill people, that's why they often react positive to my DVD progrock evenings ! It's a tough job but every day is different, you can put a lot of yourself into this work and you learn a lot about yourself (know I can handle much better my dark turns ..).

So full circle Imoeng !
I know this about Gatot because I work for Prog Archives since early 2004 and in those 2,5 years the collaborators have revealed almost all their secrets on the Forum ..
But seriously, once Gatot told in a thread about his charity work and I reacted on that, so he told me a bit more. By the way, Gatot also works for the Dutch progrock site DPRP, he knows some Dutch progheads I also know like Jerry Van Kooten, it's a small world!

It is a small world, we met at the Dream Theater concert in Singapore as well, in fact, he is the one who asked me to join this wonderful site..
Ahh, I didn't know that, about the Dutch progrock, also Jerry Van Kooten. Prog metal?? .. Probably he is the progmaster of Indonesia..
starting to get off at tangents
