Ok, not  sure if this has been done before, but...what's the most embarrassing cd in your collection? Come on now, don't be ashamed! I'm sure we all have at least one. You don't have to give a reason why you've got it, but you can if you wish. Is it something you were given as a present? Is it something you used to like, but don't now? I am interested to know.

I will start the ball rolling with mine:

WHAM - MAKE IT BIG!

Yes, I own this album! There was an offer on in Woolworths, a few years ago; buy 3 cds, pay only for 2. I got the first two Robbie Williams cds, as I liked his stuff at the time, and still do to an extent, his lyrics are very clever. (Don't think so much of his latest album though.) For my free cd, the choice was very limited, mainly Kylie Minogue/Destiny's Child type rubbish. Then I saw Wham. My wife quite liked them, her sister used to have the album on vinyl, and I do think George Michael can actually sing. And it was remastered! And that was how I came to own it. Haven't played it for ages, but probably will again one day.
(I know, some people will reply saying 'it's more embarrassing to own a Robbie Williams cd.' Or they will say: 'should have chosen Kylie instead.' :)
Anyway, it's over to you, fellow prog fans.

I still have two Michael Jackson cassettes ("Bad" & "Dangerous") somewhere, I think. I used to have one Ace of Base cassette also. As for a CD... "Songs for lovers" (bought by my mother in a supermarket).

Nothing here to be embarrassed about.... except Creed I think.Wink

I used to be a big fan of Creed back in middle school, then one day I just realized they suck and stopped listening to their Cds.

I'm not really embarrassed by anything I own.  I have Michael Jackson's 'Thriller', but I still think that's a great album.   Probably the most embarrassing thing I have is ELP's Love BeachTongue

I don't really think there is an embarrising type of music. If we were in a pop or commercial modern rock forum people would be saying they are embarrassed by owning a Yes or King Crimson album. What makes a Phil Collins or Michael Jackson Cd embarrasing? Sure, I really don't like them, but a lot of people do, so I think you should be embarassed about these as much as you are your prog Albums.....So, I'm not sure I have anything real "embarassing", but do the Soundtracks so the Lord of The Rings count? Hey! Ity's good classical music that is epic, and it got me to eventually appreciate prog!

My most embarrssing CD is a Peter Cetera CD I got for a quarter a few years ago when I liked Chicago a lot, it's REALLY bad too. Oh wait, I have a Taking Back Sunday CD, now that's a guilty pleasureEmbarrassed.

RICK WAKEMAN — The Family Album

Review by http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=3398 - Zitro
PROG REVIEWER

1 stars A very personal album for Rick Wakeman, but unfortunately, it disappoints on a huge level.

As the title implies, this album is dedicated to Rick Wakeman's family. Each track is dedicated to a member of his family, including pets. As a result, there are many short tracks in this album.

The album is all instrumental, and tries to portray a painting of sound for each person. It may succeed, but that does not save the album. The Family Album is a tedious, and uninteresting collection of shory little pieces.

Highlights : Nina, Kookie, Dad

Let Downs : Adam, Jenna, Wiggles

My Grade : F

I was searching on Amazon.com and found a very cheap Riverside album for like 3$, now at the time I didn't know much about the band or their album names, I had just heard hype and so I bought it. Then much to my suprise when the album arrives it's not the Polish prog-metal Riverside but the English pop Riverside. CryEmbarrassed

Eagles arn't embarrasing.
I once owned You Can't Touch This Single by MC Hammer, but I was a child so I'm not embarrased.
I own the best of Hank Williams, I'm somewhat uncomfortable discussing that one; but I have an excuse I'm planning on going back to University and studying music so I need to listen to some diverse stuff.
But my most embarrasing CD of all time would be The Snowgoose by Camel, yuckDead what was I thinking when I bought it?, I hope their album Mirage isn't as lousy or way overated as that one.

I don't understand why you would be embarrassed by music. Unless it's horrible and you know it.
I have a few Cd's that others may find embrarrassing... like Up To Here by the Tragically Hip, for example. But it's still one of my favourites.

And a lot of people I know think it's pretty weird owning Live it Out by Metric, considering the other music I listen to,  but it's my current favourite CD.

I think I'm with the peace frog and other's here. I must admit that I was a bit embarrasssed when I wanted to buy a random Del Amitri and came home with a Magna Carta CD because I couldn't recall the name, but the music turned out nicely.

Also, I'm not really sure I should be embarrased about my Mud CD, or the three Shakira albums. These three are definitely very mainstream, but way better than Eminem and other boomboom types.

Most recent was buying Umphrey's McGee Anchor Drops which I commented about on another thread today.  Not prog and not good, IMO.  Oh the other CD's I should have bought with that money.

Several years back, I got it in my head that I had to have all three albums out at the time of a local band (Omaha, Nebraska) made good that actually made a small name for themselves nationally called 311.   They are a funk/rap band.  I bought all three at once, listened to them about twice each and there they sit in my collection.  Ugh.

I would have to agree with Peace Frog here. I feel no need to be embarrasssed by any of the CD's I own. Though I go through a constant motion of selling off old albums I no longer like to buy new ones; cancelling out the music that no longer sparkes my interests.

Though I guess I do have a few albums that people would frown upon, I do own a few trip hop albums.

As I delve deeper into the various sub-genres of progressive rock, every once in a while it is nice to take a break from prog and listen to some straight pop rock.

Fever-Kylie Minogue

Debut, Post, Homegenic, Veripitude-Bjork (Debut  is her best i think)

Pretenders, Pretenders II, and Learning to Crawl-The Pretenders

Thrird Eye Blind-Third Eye Blind

Urban Hymns-The Verve

Thrwoing Copper-Live

Rage Against the Machine, Evil Empire, Battle for Los Angelos-Rage Against the Machine

Even after listening to all these great albums, I always find myselkf coming back to the genre I love most progressive rock

Now, I don't own anything that I would consider embarassing. But, I may have had the winner in my original stacks of vinyl. I once bought these for about 0.20€ each just to hear how bad they really are, but I haven't dared to listen to them yet:

Leila K. - Carousel
Vanilla Ice - To the Extreme

I also have Spice Girls' debut and a Mandy Moore single. Embarrassed Must I name more or did I already win?

I don't really have any "embarrassing" CDs, such as trashy soundtracks or unashamedly commercial chart fodder. On the other hand, I have a few pop CDs, which IMHO are rather good quality, such as Annie Lennox's "Medusa", an Eurythmics compilation (Annie's voice is one of the best ever!) and kd lang's "Ingénue". They're not prog, hard rock, metal or even classic rock, but to my mind it's great music nonetheless.

I don't know the others, but I really like Ingenue. A really unusual album, and certainly not mainstream!Clap

Interesting that K.D. Lang's Ingenue is mentioned a couple of times here. I own this myself, and I love it! When I want a beautifully sung, mellow album, with nicely crafted songs on it, I play this. She has a wonderful voice, rich, in tune, and NOT TOO HIGH PITCHED (A pet hate of mine.) It's a pity 95% of today's female singers, (in the pop world at least) feel they have to have a feeble, wavery, high-pitched, nasally Kylie/Madonna like whine to their voice: no depth, no richness, no warmth. Makes me wonder who teaches them to sing like that, or are they just copying the ones who came before?
Anyway, if we expand the topic to include vinyl etc, I could add a couple of other contenders myself. Probably the worst album I ever possessed (though I got shut of it years ago), was a BONEY M album, bought with my own hands too! (Oh the shame, father, the shame!) Not even sure why I bought it. It was when 'Brown Girl In The Ring' was popular.
Haven't looked through my vinyl for years, not owning a record player now, not sure what lurks in there. I do have GEOFF LOVE'S TV THEMES, from about 1973. Just TV soundtracks, but not bad actually (compared to BONEY M anyway!) Also, I have an ALVIN STARDUST album, his first one if I remember.
And on cassette...

I BOUGHT A LENA MARTELL TAPE ONCE.

There, I feel better now I have that off my chest, may I get off the couch now Doctor? Embarrassed

I'm far more embarrassed at having a Dream Theater CD than an ABBA one - "The Visitors", ABBA's last and an excellent album!

Maybe the most embarrassing ones I USED to have were a few Pantera albums, when I was 11 or so. There's not enough I can stand about that band to actually be measured.

I know I have a couple of albums people don't really tend to 'get' that I feel are at times misunderstood.... like Plumb - candycoatedwaterdrops...on the surface, it's just a sugary pop album with chick vocals, but if you really get into some of the tracks, quite a few of them are really really dreamy and depressing and have some amazing instrumentation and production values you just don't hear in pop at *all*. Not something I listen to really regularly, but sometimes the nostalgia will kick in, and when it does it is nice to find that there is real heart and substance to this weird little haze of an album I am so attached to.

I'm a big fan. Some of the early Eurythmics non-single tracks like: No Fear, No Pain; No Broken Hearts
Paint A Rumour, Doubleplusgood etc...are great and quite experimental. Her voice is fantastic.

Some of that New Wave stuff isn't so bad. I used to listen it in the early to mid eighties plus I also own a copy of Yanni, "Live at the Acropolis". Actually it's not bad really. The real clincher is a CD by Avril Lavigne, "Let Go". Never mind. It's a long story. Smile
