Subject: Relevance of Google ads?

Has anybody noticed that the Google ads that come up are often totally irrelevant to the thread being discussed? For example, what has the ad "Sexy women in rock" got to do with the thread "Prog bands in denial"?

The advert just generated for this thread was "Tents - Find Tents Fast and Easy". Why should I want a tent?

You mention Hawkwind in your signature. Hawkwind might play at a festival this year. If you went, you might need a tent. This is called creative programming.

How did it work out that we want to see sexy women in rock though? I suppose the logic is that prog fans like rock and are usually all male so sexy rock women is what we all want. You can't deny that it makes sense. Google is very clever.

I see. Maybe I would also like to buy a hawk, wind chimes, a spaceship and an arena as well.

I thought it changed dependent on which page you were looking at. Doesn't it look for words on the page, and generate what it thinks are appropriate adverts?

I've got one for hearing aids now.

Is this because we're all old? Or because listening to Hawkwind makes you deaf?

Pardon?

Maybe Google is saying that anyone who likes prog must be deaf.  Or maybe they think we've been listening to the music too loud?

i think it's trying to say that we can't be hearing well if we listen to prog. Why does he attack prog like this?. I think that the invention of Google is part of a conspiration to remove prog from the world

Custom flexible heaters?  I live in Texas, for Pete's sake!  I don't need no stinkin' heater!  It's only April and it's already in the upper 80s.

When I came to Texas, the worst thing was the humidity rather than the heat I think. It was over 95% humidity so 30 degrees (Celcius! Sorry I'm European) felt like more than 40.
