Hi,

Paul for sure ... but in general, I think the majority of solo stuff by the others was not very good ... I might put aside "Imagine", but a lot of the rest is really poor and I had already given up on all of them, and was listening big time to progressive music from all over Europe ... and it was time to forget and silence the Brits! Their time was over!

I agree here. Solo, all four had very patchy discographies.

Wings - Band on the Run is the only album I usually get back to. Tongue

Lennon. Just the way he sings Isolation makes the difference.

1. George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
2. John Lennon - John Lennon & Plastic Ono Band

George and John are by far the best of the bunch here - my vote goes to the former. Paul's debut was a bit of a disappointment - it seems it was a rushed release and sounds like little more than demo recordings. Only 'Maybe I'm Amazed' stands out as being memorable. And Ringo was quite content singing any old tripe.

I saw what you did there. Smile

All Things Must Pass is a holy mess of an album, but I just feel good about playing this again. I haven't played it very often, for which reason I never know what happens next, which is maybe a major draw of this album.
I agree with Band on the Run being the best Beatles solo album by some distance, but I can enjoy ATMP.

All polls must pass, but I think George Harrison's debut is probably the best of all the Beatles' solo works, although Paul McCartney's Pipes of Peace album runs a pretty close second.  Smile

1. George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
2. John Lennon - John Lennon & Plastic Ono Band

Technically speaking, All Things Must Pass was not Harrison's first solo album. He released Wonderwall Music in 1968 and Electronic Sound in 1969.

Likewise, Lennon released Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins in 1968, and Unfinished Music No. 2: Life with the Lions and Wedding Album both in 1969.

Yep I would echo the sentiments re Band On The Run but would add that Wings Live Over America is a great live album. If you want the best of his solo music played with real vigour then that is the album to listen to. Maybe I'm Amazed became a belated hit in the UK and the live version of that song is the version most people were familiar with for many years. (On a personal note the song Band On The Run is the best thing to play on those console games , think it was ''Rock Star''? As a family we used to have a lot of fun with that and also Eagles Hotel California)

All Things Must Pass, although I rarely return to the instrumental jams on disc 3.

Hi,

I also like RAM ... specially as it was almost completely anti Beatlesque is there is such a word. But after BOTR, I think a lot of Paul stuff is not that good, and probably over rated, and is there simply because the name usually guaranteed a small profit.

You have the wrong albums listed for 2 of the Beatles

The first George Harrison album was Wonderwall Music (followed by Electronic Sound)
All Things Must Pass was his third solo album

John Lennon did three experimental albums before the Beatles broke up
The debut was Unfinished Music No 1: Two Virgins
If you don't want to count collaborative efforts with Yoko Ono for some reason then the first album would be Imagine

I was conveniently ignoring their early experimental albums. Wink

John Lennon & Plastic Ono Band (1970)

I might like their solo stuff than The Beatles. I like George's album, too.

Overall, I rank them - John, Paul, George, Ringo
