Here is my selection of fave progressive recordings for the year 1978. A bit less to choose from as there was less quality material released as per previous years of the 1970s. My choice is the very obscure second album by Giger Lenz Marron called "Where The Hammer Hangs". Pick and choose a favourite....

^ditto. Some of their best prog material yet there will always be the 'no Steve Hackett no Peter Gabriel then no Genesis' brigade that automatically dismiss it.

^^Cristi and Richard, I have always taken to ATTWT; it has a special atmosphere which I find so appealing, and makes it one of my fave Genesis albums-from any period.....

And Then There Were Three … for the incredible music contained in half of each and every song but more for the stunning chorus and second half of "The Lady Lies"--some of the absolute best music Phil, Tony, and Mike ever made (even with PG).

I want to vote for ...ATTWT because I love the whole thing: its vibe, atmosphere, Banks' lush keys, and the fact that "Down and Out" is one of my favorite Genesis songs. Seriously, I don't miss Hackett at all on that one.

But Rush hits their second major milestone with the first side of Hemispheres, a sophisticated epic that buries the more oft-cited "2112."

It's really a "+/-" affair, but I'll vote for Hemispheres (Genesis will win the poll).

Rush comfortably out of the choices. John McLaughlin would be next. UK's debut would be my pick for 78 and would edge out Rush if it was included.

Never got on with Genesis ATTWT. Down and Out is awesome. But the rest is just "meh" to me. I have tried a number of times and it just has not clicked.

I picked that Passport album.  Didn't discover Passport until the mid-late 80s and that was one of the first albums of theirs I heard.  I now know it's not considered one of their classics but I like it
