Topic: 2012 Album ReleasesPosted By: Logan
Subject: 2012 Album Releases

2012 is a year that I was excited to cover.
This poll comes in three sections and an "other" (see details on when to use), and multiple voting is not enabled.
The first eight are taken from the unfiltered, except by year, Prog Archives Top Album Chart for 2012. The second eight is taken from the top twelve listed albums of the 2012 Collab Album of the Year topic -- there were four duplicated listings with the top eight PA chart so I did not duplicate those in the poll. The third eight is from my top ten Awesome Prog for 2012 list. two of my actual top eight were already listed for the poll in the collab top albums, but very happy with the eight I got and my lists are in no way definitive even for my tastes. I could change it up considerably. It's an indication of interests/ what I am most into right now.
"Other" as a voting option is intended to use if you don't like any of the listed options. That said, I would ask people to mention their favourites on and off the list. If, for instance, your favourite on the list is Rush's Clockwork Angels , but your actual favourite is Thinking Plague's Decline and Fall (would have made my list in the poll before, but been a long time since I last listened to the album), then I request voting for and mentioning Rush's album in a post while also mentioning Thinking Plague's as being your actual favourite album of 2012.
So I would like to hear about what people like both on AND off the list if applicable and, to reiterate, for the "other" voting poll option only to be used if nothing is liked that is already listed. Mention as many of your favourites as you like, both and off the list. And feel free to mention what you don't like that is listed too, and then preferably why it does not appeal

I'll be back with a vote, tough call.

I give it to Magma's Felicite Thosz, just edging out Motorpsyho from this list. Quite a few other contenders, like iamthemorning, Swans, Goat, Mars Volta.
Notably missing for me that come immediately to mind are Diablo Swing Orchestra's Pandora's Piñata, their best still all these years later, and the very-strange, not-for-most, "Golden Rhythm / Ink Music" by Volcano the Bear. And Devin Townsend Projects Epicloud, which I still listen to regularly. I think those topped my top ten that year
Scanning my library, also great:
Dirty Projectors - Swing Lo Magellan - great indie
The Enid - Invicta
Eluveitie - Helvetios - fun folk metal
Francis Lickerish - From the Lost Lands - OK, Actually, this might top my list for the year now. Enid spin-off, just reeeeeally good symphonic folk.
Kaiser's Orchestra - Violeta Violeta III - I am still awaiting their comeback but this album is their proggiest, and I love the Violeta cycle.
Tin Hat - The Rain is a Handsome Animal - a very unique sound in my library, I'm not often in the mood for it but when I am, nothing else comes close. I think it's mostly the clarinet that I'm a sucker for.

Voted for BBT even though it's only 10 in my original collabs list (now I would put it higher). Never understood the appeal of Rush's Clockwork Angels album other than the final track The Garden which admittedly is great.

By the way, if making lists, to make it easier for me to follow and parse and for me it helps with the flow of the topic, please do also mention the one you voted for or mention if there were none you know and like to vote for. Even though I can often infer from the list, it makes it easier for me to put the post into the context and activity (Including the sociable aspect) of what I was aiming for with the topic. Sometimes I do find too that people who make lists forget to vote even if one of those is in the list. As much as possible, i like to focus on the poll choices as well as the individual lists and in actively comparing our lists and choices to others. I do like sharing and comparing topics generally. That said, I sincerely do appreciate all of the posts. It takes time and thought to respond to topics commonly, and to try to get into the spirit of the exercise, and those efforts often don't get the appreciation and acknowledgement that I think they deserve. :) Especially noticeable in things like recommendations topics when the recommendations are not acknowledged.

That's good to know. I have both bases covered with a vote in each of your polls from 2011-2019, together with a long list of favourite albums from each particular year.

Happy to see the lists but also wish to see a comment on where the vote went.
SO which album did you vote for in the poll, Paul?
I can tell that Mira should have voted for Storm Corrosion but in comparing your list with stars to the poll, I can't see where you actually voted. You share a number of 4 star entries with the list.

I posted a separate comment on which albums I voted for in all of your polls from 2011-2019, as far as I'm aware, including this poll where my post was just below your original post and where I voted for Big Big Train.

Really sorry, I even read that before. I missed it this time. In my defence, I have been very sick and am very stupid. Yeah, the oldest excuses in the book. "Boss, I would have done better, but I am very stupid, and on crack!"

Thinking Plague & Yowie would be at the top of my list.

Aaa I'm sorry!! I'll go back and edit my posts so as to specify who I voted for in each of your threads. For the record I did indeed vote for Storm Corrosion in this one :)

Änglagård. There are many socks in my nose, to wit: chewing railroads; paper facilities; and multi-beaked insects.
