So another of these, this time for 2021. The poll is comprised of three main sections, plus an "other" space for voting: - Section One is the top eight albums from PA's 2021 chart. - Section Two is taken from the top 10 Collab Album of the Year list. Top ten because two if its top eight are in the Pan top 8 albums chart for 2021. - Section Three is highlighting eight of my nine top albums at the AwesomeProg chart. black midi is not listed in my poll choices because it is listed in the previous Collab AOTY chart. - For "other", please use if you are not much enthused by and/or know albums in the poll. If using other, please specify a favourite album that you are voting for in a post. And to any participating, mentioning others you like is appreciated. Most unfortunately, feel terrible about it, when it was suggested that I unsticky past lists due to needing to scroll down as much as one did in the Top ten Lists forum because of having so many stickies (done this many times over the past 16 years), I had some issue and the usual way that would not involve editing a post was unavailable (at least in the browsers I tried with my settings) So I edited the post and it became unreadable and full of code (an issue with the post editor). | This was the first year I took part in PA's album of the year (still collabs at the time). The pool from which to vote here is Ske, Needlepoint,Jordsjo, Lingua Ignota, Black Country, New Road, Squid. Very hard to choose between these. I think I pick Ske today. |

Other - Hackett's "Surrender of Silence". His acoustic "Under a Mediterranean Sky" hits all the points, as well. Otherwise, it would be Drifting Sun from this list. ------------- Welcome to the middle of the film. |

Again, not many changes compared to the actual year itself which
was excellent; Cavalcade gets my vote out of the options listed in the poll, but the Yoshida/Takeda partnership which first bloomed in
this year was one of amazing productivity and quality but to be fair to

2021, after two years of listening to and discovering much less music, was the year I was really, really into Kpop. I still listened to other stuff though. Off this list Shamblemaths is the biggest winner. Outside the list - my winner would actually be 'I SAY MAMAMOO: THE BEST' by Mamamoo, by fav Kpop band. Has all their best singles, with some fairly interesting re-recording for some of them. Their WAW EP was also good. Thirstier by Torres would be my second favourite, although I came to it in 2023 when it was already two years old so I don't associate it with this year. I actually liked 'Frosting' by Bent Knee, despite the shock of the first few listens where the unexpected style stood out. Blackbriars 'The Cause of Shipwreck' is also quite good, just got into that one last year though. DSO's Swagger and Stroll was pretty good I recall, not their best but certainly still good. I expected more Kpop to show up, but I guess I was plumbing back catalogues more than the latest and greatest.

Greg has already done all of 2010s and I am not even done with the 2020s. I voted for Shamblemaths but could have gone with any in my top 5 or 6. Kind of a tough year in that apparently I didn't listen much to what came out. I have a few on my list to eventually get to. ^ It's something I've been working towards for some years and I have had lots of down time to health the past few months, but now feel like I'm turning a corner. Having made other topics with lists has helped immensely. I have immersed myself more in music the past few years than I had since the mid 2000s. Well, still not nearly as much as then, and not nearly as much as various others at the forum. I don't listen to that many new-to-me albums every week. I do hope to have lists up at AwesomeProg for every year going back to at least 1960. And I enjoy sharing and comparing our lists and choices at the forum (that sociable interactive aspect makes it a much more appealing exercise to me than just making lists). Nice to see that we share Squid, Richard Dawson, Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp, Black Country, New Road, Vanishing Twin and Needlepoint in our lists. i guess the really big missing one in my list is Shamblemaths which I have not given as much attention to as it probably deserves from me. |

^I enjoy making lists but usually don't save them or mostly in mu head as mental exercise. Mike's Awesome Prog site is truly awesome and an invaluable tool for me to put these lists. It seems we have a 3 or 4 album overlap from year to year (at least 2020s). We'll see how that is as I feel my listening tastes meander. I tended more towards 'convential' prog when I got back into the genre in te early 2010s and started visiting this site. Prior to that, my tastes are more or less formed by a mix of classic prog, 70s hard rock, and late 80s/early 90s alt rock. I am about to respond to 2020 and then move into the 2010s. |
