This is the last one I wanted to do, and I am not repeating names from the past two polls even if they would fit here as singers for groups or collaborations as well as for the past singer-songwriter/artist type polls. While a different approach, I had hoped these might complement Paul's singer polls.  In some like North Sea Radio Orchestra, there were multiple singers across albums, but I listed the "main" female singer.  I did want to list Mary Hansen of Stereolab despite being more of the backup singer.  She died far too soon and the band lost a lot then. Various of these had multiple singers, and you can vote based any "non-solo" project you like as there are more projects than I listed.

As said, I'm not including any from the previous two polls (those were for female artist names) even though I would have liked to include Beth Gibbons for Portishead, Jarboe for Swans, Haco for After Dinner, and/or Nico with the Velvet Underground.  And I would have like to include Stella Vander here but it's commonly so chorus based.

I am not claiming these to be particularly proficient singers, and it's not about good or best but is a reflection of my tastes, and in fact somebody like Bobbie Watson is not a very strong vocalist but I find her thin vocals naive and charming and fit the music well on First Utterance (and actually she can belt out songs).  Some who don't know me might find it odd to be missed big names like Annie Haslam.  I like Annie Haslam, but these were the 25 I decided to go with.  I'm actually not much into Bent Knee but I do think Swain has a  great voice and wanted to include here.  Anyway, these are just some I like and feel free to mention any of your favourites.  Comments are appreciated even if critical of choices or the theme....

I would have voted for Maddy Prior ... who guested in so many things ... probably the best for me is in OMMADAWN by Mike Oldfield, including at least one live performance.

Grace Slick, of course, Siouxsie, McShee, Gaskin, and Krause would be I think some of the biggest names here.  Edda Dell'Orso, Ribeiro, Kaagman, Fraser, Lisa Gerrard and others are all well-known in some circles.  That said, I would expect most of these to be lesser-known.  For me generally there seems little point in covering lots of names most know, my tastes of course are not very mainstream at PA, and I often prefer to focus on that which I have discovered in recent years (in this case I have known most of these for many years, however).  A few of these artist names I would not have recalled without looking up the name to go with the band.

^ While I wouldn't have considered most guest vocalist collaborations as then those names aren't often significantly linked to the bands/projects (thinking like that guesting role with Led Zep), I surely thought of Sandy Danny (but not for that) soon after I posted this, partially because I remember you being such a fan.

I expect that others would come up with way more satisfying for most lists of female singers as my tastes have been called pretty bad by at least one person.  To each his or her own tastes, of course.

Oh one thing, if people can't find anything they like to mention from the lists (again a multiple choice poll) I am still happy to hear about others, but I would appreciate it if you could recommend a specific track (preferably not very long) with that singer for any others mentioned.  A big part of this exercise for me has been the playlists, so I will add those specific song recommendations to it (but no more than one per artist, please).  Thanks. I do like it when these can be quite interactive (listening to some of each others choices). As i like to discover new-to-me things and revisit, I hope some others do too.

I would like to mention Amy Darby of Thieves' Kitchen even though she isn't on the list.Their album Genius Loci has become a real favourite of mine. I had to look up the band details to find her name and was surprised to find that 3 members of Anglagard played on this album. Talk about an album that is so under the radar.

To each his own. That you neglected to mention Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span), Jacqui McShee (Pentangle) or Sandy Denny (Strawbs/Fairport), it would seem you don't really care for the British folk/folk rock movement of the late 60s/early 70s, which to me was integral for the formation of folk prog. 

I have often mentioned loving Pentangle, and Jacqui McShee is in the list and was one of the first ten or so to come to mind.  As I mentioned to Pedro, I thought he might have given her a vote.  I do remember you being into all of those names.  There's much British folk that I like from that period.  Sandy Denny is great, although I never got that into Strawbs or Fairport Convention. I did not associate her with led Zep even when her name came to mind, and I was thinking mostly about members of bands.  I just mean that the name did not come to mind until soon after I made the poll.  I just went with things off the top of my head and stopped when I had enough.  Be interesting to see what others come up with with the same approach.

I especially like to focus on newer discoveries when I can.  Another British one I thought of soon after posting was Vashti Bunyan, who I even suggested for PA.  One of my favourites from this poll is Barbara Gaskin, and I think of Spirogyra as British folk rock (thought you might comment on Comus, course I remember your feelings on Bobbie Watson and totally get that).  Much of what I like is of the more psychedelic folk variety.  I guess some of the more straightforward British folk rock outfits are not so to my tastes, and I do consider to be more of  a folkie than a rocker, despite my love for some very harsh music.

Anyway, I had hoped for some diversity and I like to cover more than just the usual names.

EDIT: maybe I should starting listing alphabetically by first name, or by listing last name first to make it easier to notice names. And sometimes I get the listing wrong even when trying to do it alphabetically.  I used to list the name in a post to make it easier to spot; should still do that.

Anyway, as these are all favourites of mine (or at least the projects are), I could happily vote for all that I listed, including Jacqui McShee, but I will go with Victoria Legrand of Beach House, which is one of my favourite bands I got into over the last year (was due to a youtube recommendation).

For my this I'll choose from one with votes, and go with Siouxie.  Really only got in this too over the past year and really enjoy those Banshees albums. And I often do favour the newer to me even I had heard some of her music going back to the 80s.
