Not appearing under discogs, but on RYM, Happy The Man has 4 archival recordings, one of which is listed on PA, and that's Death's Crown

Death's Crown (which I'm listening to now, it sounds great, even if the audio quality is lacking)

Gems and Germs

Rarities 74-74

Rarities Volume II

Some of these contain some longer pieces, and it's a shame they never got worked out in the studio, as it would've been cool to see the band come out with a fully fledged, studio-produced prog epic.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has heard these and what are their thoughts on them?

I have Death's Crown only
The 3 others look to be relatively new issues of old stuff ,don't they ?

I suppose so. Sadly, I emailed the press team (and got a response from Stanley Whitaker! Very cool) they are not planning on touring, he said they'd have to call it 'Happy the Old Man'

There were a bunch of rare recordings that were published in bandcamp for free download, those that you mention were included too except for Death's Crown. It wasn't by an official source though. But it seems now the page was deleted, luckily I downloaded them all back then but I don't have any idea if it would be ok to upload them again somewhere. I don't know if they were taken down because of legal issues.

I'm certain that I've heard some of these recordings before. I recall that arrangements of certain pieces were longer..more extensive. I was very young when Happy The Man were performing in the tri state area. Probably 20 years old and traveling a lot playing Progressive Rock covers in Rock Clubs the size of Concert Halls.

That was a magical time for me but only to an extent..because a lot of musicians I traveled with were deeply letdown by the reality that record companies were turning their back on Prog. This was 1978 and important people in the business began putting restrictions on Rock Music regarding its avant garde or melodic Prog approach to composition. As a matter of fact it was right around the time that Frank Zappa began having a feud with Warner Brothers.

In 78' or 79' ??? Happy The Man played a gig at Alexanders in Browns Mills, NJ ...and I was about 3 miles up the road playing at the Satellite near Fort Dix military base. I didn't get the chance to see Happy The Man perform. A road crew had me under radar .They had instructions from our manager that we were not to leave the establishment. I hate the music business...ugh..its so damn ugly and you have to deal with bad people sometimes. People who are bad natured and have money. You constantly get propositioned.

I missed seeing Happy The Man in other places as well...whatever?? Just a total disappointment never getting to see them . I remember people mentioning "I CARVED THE CHARIOT ON THE CAROUSEL " That is was a extended piece..like an album side. Some people claimed that they saw Happy The Man perform that. In those days the crowds wanted to hear Progressive Rock. They were aware of the different levels of talent and overall musicianship. Of course that was another lifetime and even though playing for huge crowds that were supportive...it was like anything else in life . In this case it was the Industry trying to do away with Prog ....by not promoting it as much and somewhat neglecting it's sales or personal interest of the public.

I have Death's Crown, Beginnings and Third (if you can count that one). Interestingly, I don't currently own the two studio albums (s/t and crafty hands). I think they are all good. What's up with the song called "leave that kitten alone Armone?"

I now have Gems and Germs and a couple of console recordings that were never released. I'll share them here.
