Hm, Pre The Wall, I'm going to say Ummagumma. Not TERRIBLE, but certainly not great.

I always thought of Obscured by Clouds as pleasant but somewhat forgettable. Because of this post I decided to give it a listen for the first time in years. It's pretty great actually. Beautiful. I no longer understand my previous reservations. Ummagumma's studio experiments are very much hit or miss for me, but all in all the album is rather dear to me still. More, I've always liked more. The rest are more or less all classics. Some I love more than others, but my answer has to be: none.

None of them are bad.

I indeed like them all. The one I listen to less is The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, mainly because it sounds dated to me. However, is still a great album.

Obscured By Clouds or More. I do like them all.

Hi,

You already knew what Mosh was gonna say!

Pretty soon the same folks are gonna say that the 3rd is better than the 5th and the 9th is the stink! I have my reservations to their actual listening to the music, and appreciate any magnanimous artist!

Obscured by Clouds is the most boring and generic but not unlistenable.

I really don't get the dislike for Ummagumma.
It's perhaps one of the most adventurous and fascinating albums in all of music history.
Obviously too "out there" for many.

More upon first encounter is rather disappointing but it really grew on me.
It's subtly seductive and reveals more on a microlevel.

Atom Mother Heart is inconsistent but the title track is one of my favorite prog tracks of all time.

Surprised no one has mentioned 'More'

I traded in my copy of More and The Final Cut for a copy of AHM, great trade

I find 'More' is actually very listenable to, especially for an OST.

Apart from excerpts of The Wall, The Final Cut was the first PF album I ever heard, when it came out and I'm embarrassed to say, it put me off exploring 'proper' PF for some time. I have always found tFC quite an ordeal.

It seems to me that the album with the least contributions is "Obscured by Clouds", followed by "More".

Yesss, I wouldn't put any Floyd album below a Gnosis 9 (out of 15)

I'm not crazy about Obscured By Clouds (I like most of More, though), Gumma (I like Umma) and don't appreciate the nutty singles of the Barrett era.

AHM might maybe my fave nowadays because it's the only one I played (a few times) in years (outside live or boots)

Can't vote, because even though PF are easily among my top 20 all time favorite bands, I simply have no time to listen to their early albums again to make up my mind. Besides, I generally don't like "worst of" polls. Why focus on the negative?

This.  Pink Floyd was both evolutionary AND revolutionary, and they were breaking ground where none had gone.  Of course there were rough spots.

Set the controls for the heart of the sun, please.

...

Hi,

This is really sad. The film was EXCELLENT, however, unlike a lot of Hollywood stuff, the music in it is not heard in the regular makes no sense style in films ... the whole thing is seen/heard from the girl's point of view, and the music is on a cassette player she carries with her.

Most of it, is used in her "tripping", and it was beautifully done, despite the horrible set of film stock used for the film which didn't exactly make it better, and instead made it look like a high school/college made film with no money whatsoever.

The music in the film is very well used, unlike "Obscured by Clouds" that had an Oscar Winning Cinematographer, and the music was not quite used well at all, except in the opening credits ... on top of the fact that the film looks like it was cut up senselessly to make it strange, stoney and weird.

Given the stuff that folks watch today, and seem to like a lot, a film like MORE will not be appreciated by a lot of folks today, and the music in the album will appear not together, or in some sort of cohesive fashion.

Maybe if those folks had a nice trip they would realize that it doesn't matter if the music comes from a cassette player or from the movie screen ... you still fly with it and then some ... but I doubt many folks today give a poop and are strong enough to learn and find out! And then be able to "LIVE" with the story, instead of "imagining it". There is a massive difference!

Either Saucerful of Secrets or More. I guess I'll officially say More. OBC is right behind them though.

I appreciate the innovation and originality of Syd's albums, but by now they are the ones I play the least with difference.

Actually same as Richard, I rarely find myself playing anything pre-Meddle, but Ummagumma, More and Obscured by Clouds still get some playing once in a while.

None of them are bad, indeed, but More is the one that I've never really attached much value to, especially compared to all their other albums (pre- or post- The Wall).

in the vast minority here, but my vote would be for either (or both) of the first 2 albums.  Just not a fan of the Syd Barrett stuff.  I guess I never believed in all the hype surrounding Syd Barrett as a songwriter or whatever else he was.  Of course I realize his influence on Waters' lyrics in later works, but....just do not care for those first 2 albums.

Not sure. If I have to choose, it might just as well be Obscured by Clouds, though it's not really bad at all, just... perhaps forgettable compared to other stuff they have released. And even that one has little gems as, for me, Mudmen. Or if I would separate the discs, then I may agree with those that say the Studio disc of Ummagumma.

Pre-Wall Floyd is where it's at - as a fan, there's not a duffer in the bunch.  And I'm seeing waaaay too much hate on Obsucred - it's one of their best all-around albums.  Some far out psych, some spacy pop, some excellent group playing, especially Gilmore and Wright.  There is one album that I don't turn to very often - I dig it but think the group overreached on a few tracks and threw a bit of filler pop tunes in to round things out:  Saucerful of Secrets.

Like them all as there are no bad albums here. So the two that I play the least are More and Piper

Worst to best:
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn - pretty awful.
Saucerful of Secrets - pretty poor.
Ummagumma - mediocre
More - OK
Atom Heart Mother - good
Wish You Were Here - outstanding in parts, mediocre in others
DSOM - very good
Obscured by Clouds - very different, but excellent except for Mudmen
Meddle - excellent except for Seamus, and Echoes is their masterwork
Animals - brilliant

But The Wall and A Momentary Lapse of Reason are pretty dreadful (Comfortably Numb excepted).

Alright here's my thoughts on each album

Piper - A pretty good first start. Astronomy Domine, Interstellar Overdrive, and Bike are still fantastic.
Saucerful - Underrated second outing. Used to be my all time favorite but it's not anymore, but the title track is still fantastic.
More - Very just a nothing kind of album.
Ummagumma - Live album is amazing, studio...meh.
Atom Heart Mother - My all time favorite Pink Floyd album. Consistently great throughout, with an amazing epic!
Meddle - Aside from One Of These Days and Echoes, it's kinda just ok to me.
Obscured - The better OST, still kinda just ok.
Dark Side - Yeah kinda basic but this is a masterpiece
Wish You Were Here - Ngl, not as big of a fan of this as most people. Still pretty great.
Animals - Really amazing, though Roger needed an ego check during the recording of that record.

So I would say my least favorite is More. You can probably skip it and maybe miss, like, 2 alright songs.
