Do you have a standout track from 2023? Even if not, please try to mention one (embeds or links are appreciated if it has not been covered already). Swans' The Beggar Lover (Three) is mine, and it helps that it is as long as it is. |

It's difficult not to agree with with Logan and go for the album long The Beggar Lover. - But Signal may just be my favorite groove... ever. Which is fortunate as the groove goes on for about 16 minutes (where a wondrous change of pace occurs - feels uniquely rewarding). Those gently melancholic single-note piano lines and simple organ figures give me what I think can be compared to an ASMR-like brain-tingling sensation. Stunning. When it's over I only want more (Bloodstream from the same album, Travel is up there among my top favorites of the year as well): |

The Beggar Lover is great indeed. Otherwise I wasn't so much attracted by standalone tracks, but I enjoy pretty much every track on Aksak Maboul's "Une Aventure di VV (Songspiel)" and Kong's "Traders of Truth". Probably Aksak Maboul's album is better as a whole as Kong do pretty much what they do all the time on their album (but this really to perfection, and I'm a fan anyway). That said, there are a couple of Kong tracks that work best as a standalone, and I nominate one of them as "standout" (even though really there are more). What about this one for a dynamic heavy instrumental with electronics? |

Special kudos go out for the Rascal Reporters tracks! I had heard some of their earlier material and it somehow didn't connect well to me, but both of these are awesome! |

Motorpsycho's "Hotel Daedalus" is it for me so far--though three from Oiapok's OisoLün have haunted me (in a good way) since I first heard them: "Le Concierge," "Les grands équipages de lumière," and "Frogs Might Disappear." Many thanks for the wonderful selections. I have not listened to all of them properly, but been appreciating music from all. That The Necks albums is great, and Oiapok, and the PoiL I knew and really liked, as some whose recent work I had familiarity with. And like others, really enjoying The Rascal Reporters. Les Theories des Cordes is one I enjoy (and had some familiarity with due to an Interactive Poll). Anchor and Burden is very interesting. I did enjoy the Big Big Train from the little bit I heard. And that vocalist is very good from Riverside. Riverside has commonly felt a little too slick/ commercial, melodic rock/ alt. metal AORish to me, not one I have explored much, but I love the folky way that track starts. Impressed by the vocalist. Since I like to this, mostly for myself, I made a playlist with the mentions -- not completely in order of posts because when it came to some that mentioned more than one, I added those extras later in the playlist (some more to add). Not in PA methinks, but suitable methinks (doesn't mean I want to suggest it now since some leap to suggesting that sometimes, and I have one PA add in the oven and hardly a traditional suggestion). Hope to hear more from people, including those who posted, and I plan to properly listen to all anon (even if I don't properly comment). No doubt some of these will be off my favourite albums of the year for 2023. |
