I saw Mirakaze's topic and it made me wonder if there were many prog rock songs with a clarinet in a prominent role. I absolutely love the sound of a clarinet. It would also be really interesting to hear a clarinet solo in a rock context. I can't think of a song off the top of my head that has a clarinet in a prominent role (but I am bad with remembering the instruments a song has) and is prog rock, but if anyone knows one, please tell me.

King Crimson's "Epitaph" has a clarinet part shortly after the 4 minute mark, as does Supertramp's "If Everyone Was Listening" in its chorus

I completely forgot that Epitaph existed when I made this post, but it is an obvious example of it. It is also probably my favorite song. Thanks!

Die anarchistische Abendunterhaltung (aka DAAU) have clarinet featured on all of their albums, but I don't know if that is the kind of prog you like.

I just started listening to their latest album and I like it, but I just realized that this album isn't in the prog archives for some reason? The rest of their discography is.

^ Ah, I guess you are referring to Hineininterpretierung. Indeed it is missing in the database. This album proposes a rerecording/reinterpretation of some previous works and is a very good introduction to the music of this band.

Brian Eno plays clarinet on the second Fripp and Eno album, but its really an ambient album, not prog rock.

From my shelves and the limbs of my memory :-)
Band : Stackridge
LP : Extravaganza
LP : Mr Mick
years 1975 and 1976 i think .... issued on ...the Elton John's label !
Keith GemmeL is credited on sax and clarinet on both LPs
For a a non musician, clarinet and soprano saxophones could sounds quite the same on rock recordings
especially as they are processed orsubjected to various effects.

Saga's Jim Gilmour plays a fabulous solo on "No Regrets (Chapter Five)" from the Worlds Apart album.

Another John Helliwell/Supertramp song with clarinet: "Poor Boy" on Crisis? What Crisis?
