Billie Bottle's Temple of Shibboleth have recently released their first (self-titled) lp and completed a mini-tour of the South West of England (they hail from Devon) which also took in a gig in London and Bristol.
A five piece consisting of Billie Bottle (Keyboards, guitars, bass, vocals), Viv Goodwin- Darke (Flute, vocals), Roz Harding (Alto Sax, vocals), Anna Batson (Bassoon, Vocals) and Emma Holbrook (Drums, percussion). Richard Sinclair from Caravan/Hatfield and the North played guest bass on one track on the lp. Viv Goodwin Darke has played with (also from Devon) Magic Bus and The Invisible Opera Company of Tibet.
The lp is a concept piece built around the 'traditional' household tasks assigned (historically) to different days of the week and the concert built around the lp uses lots of (a little tongue in cheek) mythic ritual and theatre. There is plenty of humour and a certain amount of gentle satire (very much in a Daevid Allen era Gong vein) but plenty of love and respect too.
The band certainly love and channel many of the 'classic' Canterbury bands and artists such as Caravan, Hatfields, Gong and Robert Wyatt but also have a great Pop sensibility with superb vocal harmonies.

I saw their final concert (of this tour) in Exeter last Sunday and was SO blown away i felt that they should be mentioned here. Hope thats ok!

An all-female Canterbury band? How wonderful!

Are these guys in the PA database yet? If not, I'll see if we can push them through the Cant-Fuse team.

The name of the band reminds me of this obscure game I used to play when I was a kid:
