I just thought and heard this wonderfull song by Saga, first track on their Chapters "Saga" a gigantous song "Images". One of the best songs ever in my book to fully understand the power of Saga. Saga is three persons in core, Vocalist Michael Sadler, Keyboardist Jim Gilmour and Guitarist Ian Crichton. Saga is a band that deserves good music analyzis of Rick Beato like level. One of my wants and wishes is for Rick to highlight Ian Crichtons guitar playing.

But there is so much to technically bring out from Saga, for every music nerds. One of the most sophisticated and smart bands of their time.

The synth /ARP /oberheim arrangement on Images is chilling, from 3.39 minutes in too Images, some of the best arrangments in Sagas cataloge is shown. One of my favourite instrumental climaxes in music.

Here is a Spotify-link to the song

Yeah absolutely. Saga are one of those bands that deserve high praises.

You’re right to be enthusiastic about them. I have exactly ten albums of theirs. I love them all, especially the live album “In Transit” and my favorite studio release “Silent Knight.”

Amazing music. Not only that a lot of Saga’s music is recorded quite well. Love the 80’s period. Wow. :)

^^We considered them sort of local boys even though they were about 2hrs away from where we lived. Same as Rush. Seeing them at local collages and arenas. If fact we played in some of the same bars as Saga did back in the 80's.
But I have to point out that Steve Negus has always been an integral part of what made Saga Saga. So don't throw him any shade.

Thank you for supporting independently produced music

Silent Knight is also my favorite Saga record. Watch the DVD concert Silhouette to see their array of Moog synths, from the MiniMoog to the Liberation. Pretty awesome.

The "core" of Saga is more likely the Crichton brothers, Ian & Jim, followed by Sadler, followed by Gilmour. Peter Rochon's keyboard playing on the debut is righteous, too!

While the first five albums are undoubtedly their best offerings, the quintet of Crichton, Crichton, Sadler, Gilmour, and Negus cooked up more that are near and dear. I'm especially fond of Full Circle. The much more recent Sagacity is very good, too.

Saw them live in Baton Rouge around '84 had to be the Heads/Tails Tour.....I've been a Saga fan since 1981 with Worlds Apart. Then got the 3 previous albums, I think they are all great! Would love for a Chapters Live to come out on LP.
In Transit is a great live record, I also have the cassette......they have been slowly releasing the catalog on LP, all have been remastered for vinyl and they sound fantastic!

I've always enjoyed Negus's playing, something that attracted me to Sage initially.

I am not meaning to not mentiok Negus, Sagas drumming is very air drumming friendly. Tgere are some awesome linear drumming. And the core quintet is tight. I just wanted to highligh the melodic content and providers of the awesole unison arangemnt Saga is famous for

Great to see more respect for SAGA on this site - they will always be part of my personal "Big Six".

"Images (Chapter One)" is a true masterpiece. On one hand, it's the closest the band ever came to composing a classical piano piece. On the other hand, it's very reminiscent of Gentle Giant, one of the band's major influences. This would be my favorite song from the Images at Twilight album, were it not for the crowd-pleasing "You're Not Alone"!

The archive release Phase One is a must for the original (better) version of "Mouse in a Maze" and the rarity "Hangman"!

^ Nice track! Wasn't aware of this archive release and listening to it it is clear that Saga is/was a truly unique band. Here you hear some of their ideas that found there ways into other tracks. At the same time it makes me think that their best material landed on their studio albums. In that sense I am also not that sure if I share your opinion regarding Mouse in a Maze - will have to relisten to both versions...

Images is indeed a masterpiece, imo. But there are so many tracks that make up the Saga canon for me. A truly great band for me, with their first five albums. After that they loose a bit of their originality, but Generation 13 is another masterpiece of theirs in their later catalogue...

Underrated track when Sadler stepped out of the band for a bit in the 80’s.
