One album per act: The 26th to 50th highest ranked albums in RYM that are also found in PA's Prog categories.

In the first poll I had the top 25 albums in the Rate Your Music all-genres and all-time chart when only including one album per artist/band (the top-rated album) that also are listed in Prog categories/genres at Prog Archives -- I have not included ones included in Prog Related and Proto-Prog at PA. The list includes studio and live albums as well as archival releases. I did make one exception for this, because PA has a complete discography policy, a Miles entry I dismissed. I could not bring myself to include Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, and instead went with the second-highest ranked Davis album, In a Silent Way (1969).

In the second poll I am doing numbers 26 to 50.

The numbers after the band/artist name are the chart ranking at Rate Your Music. Here is the chart: https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/all-time/deweight:live,archival,soundtrack/" rel="nofollow - CLICK HERE

Please excuse any possible mistakes, here are the top 50.

Radiohead - OK Computer (1)
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (3)
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (4)
Godspeed You Black Emperor! - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven! (21)
Miles Davis - In a Silent Way* (33)
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love (38)
Björk - Vespertine (40)
Yes - Close to the Edge (52)
Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind (66)
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock (72)
Can - Future Days (77)
Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun (92)
Death - Symbolic (102)
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats (103)
Eno - Another Green World (131)
Genesis - Selling England by the Pound (166)
Comus - First Utterance (178)
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick (187)
Tool - Lateralus (206)
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine (218)
Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters (228)
Opeth - Blackwater Park (249)
This Heat - Deceit (268)
black midi - Hellfire (285)
Camel - Mirage (302)
Invisible - El jardín de los presentes (329)
Rush - Moving Pictures (333)
Coil - The Ape of Naples (344)
The Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin - The Inner Mounting Flame (386)
Gorguts - Obscura (392)
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile (403)
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts (408)
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom (427)
Magma - Rétrospective Vol. 1 & 2 (428)
Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood (431)*
Electric Masada - At the Mountains of Madness (433)
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain (437)
Tim Buckley - Dream Letter: Live in London 1968 (441)
Mastodon - Crack the Skye (458)
Soft Machine - Third (464)
Santana - Abraxas (466)
Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Safe as Milk (480)
Mr. Bungle - California (487)
Ulver - Bergtatt: Et eeventyr i 5 capitler (499)
Isis - Panopticon (511)
Caravan - In the Land of Grey and Pink (513)
Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun (519)
NEU! - NEU! '75 (524)
Weakling - Dead as Dreams (534)
Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel (3 aka Aggh, my face is melting) (546)

Don't think this Neorosis is Prog either, and some others methinks, but I just chose to exclude Kind of Blue.

Interesting to me that three of my very favourite albums are sequentially listed in the poll with Wyatt's Rock Bottom, VdGG's Pawn Hearts and Magma's Rétrospective Vol. 1 & 2.

This has a different feel to me than the first 25. While that was packed with so many favorites it felt pointless to choose an album (which I still did:) - this has three very clear standouts for me. I've never stopped listening to them and I'd like to bring them all on a desert island. I don't think I can vote for one over the others...

Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts (408)
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom (427)
Soft Machine - Third (464)

Here's two additional favorites if I were to make a top five:

Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Safe as Milk (480)
Magma - Rétrospective Vol. 1 & 2 (428)

Which Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel? You know he wasn't big on album titles.

Canterbury today: Caravan followed by Wyatt. Not that the first is really better than the second, but In the land of grey and Pink is an album I was used to trip on.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Not quite as strong as the other list overall, but Rock Bottom > Pawn Hearts are great albums.

Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts (408)
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom (427)
Soft Machine - Third (464)

Seeing Rock Bottom with no votes, it seems I was able to vote for it over the others anyway.

Like Saperlipopette! my top three would be Robert Wyatt's Rock Bottom, VdGG's Pawn Hearts and Soft Machine's Third. My next most listened to one would be Magma's (I have so loved Theusz Hamtaahk off it), and I too do like Safe as Milk (my favourite Beefheart album). The Electric Masada and Neu! Both the Cravan and Santana have been favourites of mine. There's another album on this list that has been very special to me, and rarely gets mentioned, and that is Boredom's Vision Creation Newsun. Today that underdog will get my vote. That was impulsive, and caused some very quick regret, I really should have gone with Rock Bottom (so poignant and made such an impact on me).

It's surely a fact that there're really many albums, we both like, even maybe not the Danish ones. Big smile

My personal top list of these:
Rush - Moving Pictures
The Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin - The Inner Mounting Flame
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
Magma - Rétrospective Vol. 1 & 2
Soft Machine - Third
Santana - Abraxas
NEU! - NEU! '75
Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel (Melt)

But my vote goes to VDGG (tomorrow it could be different).

While I have 23 I made of these, I cared most about showing the first two (or three) because it related to another topic and I think that person might be interested.
