In this poll are the top 25 albums in the Rate Your Music all-genres and all-time chart when only including one album per artist/band (the top-rated album) that also are listed in Prog categories/genres at Prog Archives -- I have not included ones included in Prog Related and Proto-Prog at PA. The list includes studio and live albums as well as archival releases. I did make one exception for this, because PA has a complete discography policy, a Miles entry I dismissed. I could not bring myself to include Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, and instead went with the second-highest ranked Davis album, In a Silent Way (1969).

The numbers after the band/artist name are the chart ranking at Rate Your Music. Here is the chart: https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/all-time/deweight:live,archival,soundtrack/" rel="nofollow - CLICK HERE

Please excuse any possible mistakes, here are the top 50.

Radiohead - OK Computer (1)
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (3)
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (4)

Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind (66)
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock (72)
Can - Future Days (77)
Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun (92)
Death - Symbolic (102)
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats (103)
Eno - Another Green World (131)
Genesis - Selling England by the Pound (166)
Comus - First Utterance (178)
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick (187)
Tool - Lateralus (206)
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine (218)
Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters (228)

Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood (431)*
Electric Masada - At the Mountains of Madness (433)
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain (437)
Tim Buckley - Dream Letter: Live in London 1968 (441)

Don't think this Neorosis is Prog either, and some others methinks, but I just chose to exclude Kind of Blue.

You know I think I'm gonna behave like the obsessive fanboy I feel like, and vote for Black Midi - Hellfire - this time around. It's such an impressive album. I'm happy to see it being such a great success - relatively speaking. So very well deserved. I hope we'll get a myriad of exciting young and hungry bands and artists that manages to carve out something as unique and finds an audience. A little renaissance for (real) progressive music of sorts. That would be fun.

I kind of like every album here. At least to an extent. If I tried to choose ten favorites, I think it'll have to be these:

black midi - Hellfire (285)
Miles Davis - In a Silent Way (33)
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love (38)
Camel - Mirage (302)
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (4)
Comus - First Utterance (178)
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine (218)
Can - Future Days (77)
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock (72)
Radiohead - OK Computer (1)

Looking at the albums I've left out here this doesn't feel right, but I followed my heart and competition is strong.

There are so many great albums to choose from here that I can't decide at the moment, so I'll wait and see how the rest of the voting goes. At the moment it's a choice between:- Kate Bush; Camel; Genesis; King Crimson & YES.

I picked Camel just ahead of Pink Floyd and Yes.

I voted for Thick as a Brick, my all time favorite album, but I could easily have voted for most of this albums.

Genesis, ahead of Tull and Floyd….

This is a ridiculously strong list with some 5-10 albums that I'd rank top in most polls where they appear. I'd be very happy to vote for Kraftwerk or This Heat, who don't appear that often, however I will vote honestly and Laughing Stock is a top 5 of all time album.

This is a super strong list, with Herbie Hancock, I would have preferred it to be the next ranked album with Sextant (I think it was, love that and Crossings).

For this list, I particularly love (in RYM ranking order):
Radiohead - OK Computer
Godspeed You Black Emperor! - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!
Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
Björk - Vespertine
Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Can - Future Days
Comus - First Utterance
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine
This Heat - Deceit

But I really liked and have loved many more albums in this poll. It really is an impossible choice, but this year especially Soundtracks for the Blind has been such an important album to me that I will give it a vote -- hardly an auto-vote, however. It's a really long album that I find really satisfying.

Yes, 30 votes so far and not one for King Crimson's debut. Amazing! I could understand it if it was Larks' Tongues in Aspic in the poll instead. Tongue

Then you dont understand Crimson fans, LTiA would receive more votes.

These would all be contenders for me:
Radiohead - OK Computer
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Godspeed You Black Emperor! - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!
Yes - Close to the Edge
Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine
Camel - Mirage

But if I really had to choose just one, then I'd go with my first love and the amazing compositions and playing on Close To The Edge.

This was part one of 23 part series of albums that are included in both Prog Archives and RateYourmusic, and with another topic on "prog" albums in RYM, I thought I would revive this.
