My favourite PFM album
I love all of the album but my vote goes to Via Lumiere. That thing is just gorgeous and I always pondered what kind of music they could’ve made subsequently, if they’d explored that particular fusion-meets-psych-meets-RPI-type-of-thang that Via Lumiere brought to their oevre. But alas we got Chocolate Kings which isn’t a poor album by any means...it’s just not L’Isola di Niente either..and for me at least the latter is the high water-mark of PFM.

Awesome post Clap!

I chose the opener/title track.

Is My Face On Straight always makes me laugh.

I'll vote for it. Excellent album all around.

The lyrics in that one always make me double take and forget it's PFM I'm listening to, lol.

I enjoy this album as a whole, so it’s hard for me to pick a favorite track.

The first and last tracks are my favourite on this album - which, incidentally, is my most favourite PFM album. I tossed a coin, and went for Via.

Great album! It was the English version of this one that introduced me to PFM - I later got the Italian version on CD, which I prefer. From these tracks it is Dolcissima Maria that has always been the more emblematic song and melody that travels with me all the time. While hiking in the mountains I hum this melody... When I think of PFM, this is one of the first melodies that springs to mind. Not necessarily the best album, but this one is special...

This one is also my favorite. I think they really showed off their chops on this one, and each track is varied so much from another. I went with La Luna Nuova, but could have chosen most of the others.

^ "Dolcissima Maria" wins, at least at the moment. This means f**k prog noodling, give us sweet ballad. Smile
I voted for Maria too.

The title track for me. It is an overall a great album, but not my favorite PFM album.

The first track for me. Summarizes everything great about prog. High watermark for PFM. Don't think they achieved anything higher after that.

Like Guldbamsen I have to say that this is my favourite album by PFM. The opener is my pick though.

This and Stori di un Minuto are my favourite albums by PFM. L'isola di niente has one of my very favourite closers period with "Via Lumiere" (my favourite PF track along with "Dove... quando... (parte II)". I love jazzy PFM. And what a brilliant opener. Come to think of it, this is my favourite PFM album. Hadn't listened to it all for quite some years, and it's hitting me hard again.

I just gave this one a spin a few times recently.
I don't have favorite tracks. It's a brilliant album as a whole.

Great to see so many replies in this thread!

This album is worth all the praise, I've been listening a little under a week almost exclusively in the car. The first track clicked immediately; it's magic and has that PFM "How have I not heard this before?!" flair like all of their stuff does for me. Very Genesis-ian parts throughout; I hear minimal ELP and more Yes influence if anything here.

The bass and the down beat rhythm of the title track is precision prog rock exemplified, my friends. That's the bread and butter of the prog cake I think we all yearn for when we opine for the golden days, such as when this record manifested before humanity.

"As long as you're not sick or poor; or a negro or a queer" will never, never not perk my ear up LOL. It comes out of nowhere every time for me still. I probably look manic in traffic laughing at myself for missing it "coming up" each time. Those clean verses are hilarious LOL.

Track 4, despite its popularity here, is the hardest for me to get into admittedly. Track 5 kills it, very proggy and busy and has all the ROI elements I get off on LOL.

Golden era RPI to the max! Thank you for introducing me to this band and album, PA! Eternal gratitude!

I heard it a few times lately, since I finally bought the album. La Luna Nuova is still my favourite song on it.

Love the album but that English song is pretty awful.

The first two PFM albums are long-time favorites, but this one has always leaves me a bit cool. "La Luna Nuova" reminds me most of their earlier music and is my pick.

This was the very first non-english album I had ever heard, and I wasn't looking forward to it as a friend lent it to me. I thought I better spin it at least once but of course ended up falling for it hard.

Is My Face On Straight always gets me when the ending vamp starts. Take a listen again with this context: it feels like someone who has simply accepted their fate as a madman, driven there by society. The accordion only amplifies this.

I'll admit the delivery with the lyrics can be cringey. Still fantastic for me.

Wow this is actually a decent poll for once, huh guys? Quite varied and fair, I must say!

The fourth track seems to start a bit slow to me, but I'm coming around to it.

'Is My Face On Straight' is by far the most appealing and interesting to me, with all those (good) rhythm changes. Maybe I specially like the way it begins, with that quiet, unusual and beautiful guitar arpeggio and voice... the atmosphere.. and a bit later when the drums enter.

I've never paid much attention to the lyrics.

La Luna Nuova, for sure.
Although Via Lumiere is on point.

That song is solid, it's when they started doing entire albums in English the dropped several points for me, lol.

The first 3 PFM are all you need IMHO.

One of my favourite RPI albums and that’s saying a bit because I love RPI to death. The first song gets me so hyped up so it’s got yo be that one. But Dolcissima Maria is so beautiful and almost makes me tear up and the other tracks are amazing prog songs, especially Via lumiere

The guitar riff happening once the bass kicks in, with the vocals, is at least 20 years ahead of its time.

It reminds me of Cynic "Focus", which came out in 1993, lol.

Now on the last track and getting serious goose bumps from Via Lumiere. Possibly the best ending ever to an album. Sublime.
