I was about to post in a very old thread about this song but it was closed, so here's a new one!

What do you think of Inside And Out, the song on side 2 of Genesis' Spot The Pigeon EP, their last studio release with Hackett? I think it's marvelous! A very pretty song to begin with gets topped off with an overwhelming instrumental at the end with dazzling synths and a sweet Hackett guitar solo. I love W&W, but I wonder if I'd love it more (and indeed if others would like it more) if Inside And Out had replaced something like Wot Gorilla? or Your Own Special Way (though I have a soft spot for that song, but then again it could at least use a trim).

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

yup, if you swap places between I&O with YOSW, W1W becomes almost as good as TotT, and Pigeon can be called Genesis' ApocalyseLOL. This said the other two pigeon tracks are bloody awful as well. Dead

What about swapping Inside And Out for Your Own Special Way AND swapping Wot Gorilla? for Hackett's Please Don't Touch (which I believe he had wanted Genesis to record and put on the album but the others didn't like it very much)?

I like Inside and Out, but I also have a soft spot for Pigeons. I'm a sucker for the whimsical stuff. Harold the Barrel as well.

I loved 'Spot the Pigeon' when it came out!  As a football fan, even 'Match of the Day' combined both passions.

I love "Inside and Out" as well. When I listen to Wind and Wuthering, I always play "Inside and Out" between "Blood on the Rooftops" and "Unquiet slumbers..." It seems to work best there.

A nice track and much much better than Your own Special Way....could have fit well on Wind.

Inside & Out should have been on W&W, and yes it should probably have replaced YOSW.

Wot Gorilla was a good idea that wasn't developed, and was essentially 'filler' to finish the side. That could have been replaced too IMO. I love W&W, but it does kind of feel like the album that Banks really put his foot down and turned the synths up to 11. That said Hackett's playing contribution was very strong, and of course it has Blood on the Rooftops, which is my favourite song Hackett wrote for the band.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
