1. Fear of a Blank Planet (2007)
2. Deadwing (2005)
3. In Absentia (2002)
4. Signify (1996)
5. The Sky Moves Sideways (1995)
6. Stupid Dream (1999)
7. The Incident (2009)
8. Lightbulb Sun (2000)
9. Up the Downstairs (1993)
10. On the Sunday of Life (1992)

Signify's been as high as 1 for me. So have the other top 4. I used to like Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun a lot more, but they didn't age so well.

I think eventually the metally albums won't age so well.

I don't really know how to rank them, but my favourite is not even a studio album. It's Coma Divine.

HI,

Let's see .... 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10.

The order for them? ... Big smile

I forgot. I'm not sure I listened to them because of ratings ... I liked the music, pretty much in all of the albums, and will not rank one over the other.

I do find, subjectively, that "The Incident" is a much better album than we give it credit for, however, I have had a thought or two, that it would have been a much better SINGLE ALBUM, and not a double one, which would take out a song or two (save it for a "remix"!!!) to make a stronger album.

Sadly, it has killed the group ... and I think that SW has found fresher waters by himself!

Interesting. Never really thought much about it.

1. On The Sunday Of Life...
2. Stupid Dream
3. Signify
4. Up The Downstair
5. Lightbulb Sun
6. In Abenstia
7. The Sky Moves Sideways
8. Deadwing
9. Fear Of A Blank Planet
10. The Incident

that feels about right. Voyage 34, Coma Divine, and Arriving Somewhere... would rank fairly high if nonstudio albums were included.

My personal favourite is the 2 CD compilation "Stars Die". I only have two Porcupine Tree studio albums on CD: "In Absentia" & "Deadwing".

Hard to definitively rank all of them, but at least my top 3 would be:

1. Fear of a Blank Planet
2. In Absentia
3. Lightbulb Sun

Then the middle tier would include Sky, Deadwing, Signify, and Up the Downstairs...

With the low tier featuring On the Sunday, Stupid Dream, and The Incident.

They never made a bad album though.

If I had to choose one album out of the list, I'd vote for Porcupine Tree's Neo-Prog album "Lightbulb Sun". Smile

I'm currently unable to list the ten albums in order of preference, as I've only listened to about half of those albums on the list all the way through so far.

Amazingly, when we go over into the 2020's, Porcupine Tree's music will have spanned five decades, beginning in the late 1980's,  even though I still think of them as a relatively "new" band. Smile

How can I possibly be a troll when you're the one who follows me around from post to post criticising just about everything I say? Anyway, I don't mind at all, because I'm honoured  to have such a devoted follower who follows me everywhere and reads all of my posts. Thanks! You're one of our most valued PA members who makes being here such a worthwhile experience, and I mean that most sincerely. Wink Heart Smile

I enjoy reading your album reviews too, because I agree with most of what you say. Keep up the good work. Thumbs Up

^^ Actually, I was trying to flatter you, but it seems my flattery was wasted on you. Wink
That wasn't trolling, that was just me trying to be friendly, although it seems you're unable to tell the difference. LOL

By the way, Cristi, are you old enough to remember who that was in the black & white picture?

Get a room guys

When I first got into PT, it was with the later albums. I liked the heavier tone and couldn't really digest the earlier spacier stuff. Then, I listened to the song, The Sky Moves Sideways, and loved it. That led me to appreciate more the earlier albums. The ones that still don't resonate with me are the middle albums but maybe I will come around to those in time.

Got the feel that we have music taste quite similar, not only this band.
