this is in my opinion the greatest recording of the greatest piece of music ever written (in my opinion at least, and I am most definitely not alone in that opinion), the St Matthew Passion. here it is performed by the Collegium Vocale Gent conducted by Philippe Herreweghe.

there are some minor flaws in the recording, for example at 54:58, but they don't diminuish the greatness of this performance.

there are some passages that move me to tears, and you can clearly see that the singers themselves are close to tears as well there.

the soloists are:

Christoph Prégardien - tenor (Evangelist)
Tobias Berndt - baritone (Jesus)
Dorothee Mields - soprano
Hana Blažíková - soprano
Damien Guillon - countertenor
Robin Blaze - countertenor
Colin Balzer - tenor
Hans Jörg Mammel - tenor
Matthew Brook - bass
Stephan MacLeod - bass

enjoy and be moved as well
