I have recently fallen in love in with Guy Manning.

I already knew The Tangent and United Progressive Fraternity, where he was in involved.
Recently discovered Damanek, and I must it was one of the best albums I have heard in many years.

I love the symphonic, folky, melodic and adventurous approach of this kind of progrock.
It has pop, funk, fusion, worldmusic, folk, anything, that made seventies music so great.

The rise of neoprog and progmetal made progrock considerably conervative and restricted. Suddenly all the bands sounded alike. Only a few dare to tread new paths and break free from the restictions of modern-day prog.

With the new rise of Pink Floyd and Marillion/Genesis-influenced bands it got even more boring and tedious.

Luckily there's the extended family of Spock's BeardThe Flower KingsBig Big TrainUnitopia and Beardfish to keep thing interesting.

I want to start this thread to get informed about all the projects and albums that Guy Manning is involved.
I really like his style. His style is more rooted in music like Al StewartMoody BluesBarclay James HarvestJethro Tull and the likes. More folky and romantic, just the way I like it.

Albums I already own and adore:

The Tangent - The Music That Died Alone
The Tangent - The World That We Drive Through
The Tangent - III: A Place In The Queue
The Tangent - Going Off On One
The Tangent - Not As Good As The Book
The Tangent - Down And Out In Paris And London
The Tangent - Le Sacre Du Travail
UPF - Fall In Love With The World
Damanek - On Track
Manning - A Matter of Life and Death (The Story of Abel Mann)

I have three order Manning-albums in the queue, to listen to, so the list will be upgraded.

Feel free to add comments and recommend me on this marvelous vocalist/instumentalist.

Guy will be pleased (he is a forum member).

You're right about the Damanek album, it is brilliant.  I also recommend the three Manning CDs I have - Songs From the Bilston House, Charlestown and The Root, The Leaf and The Bone but they're all good.

The only thing missing in the Manning-albums is flute.
But that is solved in the Tangent and UFP-albums.

I will check out the other Manning-albums.
But I want to keep my house tidy and clean, so I only play digital albums.
There are (so far) two albums of Manning on Spotify. Couldn't find any on Bandcamp.

That's great news. Let's see how I can get hold of it.

Right now, I'm really addicted to Damanek - On Track.
UFP was my addiction, and then Rikard Sjöbloms Gungfly, but they all pale in comparison to Damanek.
It's like all the elements of 70's progrock, 80's intelligent pop, 90's hardrock and contemporay fusion/world are combined. It's the album Tears for Fears could have produced if they had Sting and Mark Hollis in the band.

Whenever I listen to Guy sing he definitely invokes Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull for me.  I have very much enjoyed every one of his projects that I have heard.  Damanek was a splendid album and before that the UFP album blew me away.  I've also enjoyed the Manning albums that I have heard.  It would be nice to gain access to the earlier Manning releases.  I think that I looked once and was not able to find a way to purchase them, but this was a while ago.

Hello
Well you can try haggle with the Promoter on the night if you like, sadly I have no control over that part.
However, knowing that there will be a large number of PA members in the audience will only spur us on to work harder and give you a truly exceptional show Big smile

If you spend £30 on CDs at http://www.progrock.co.ulk" rel="nofollow - www.progrock.co.ulk before tomorrow midnight, you get 8 Manning CDs free. If that's not a bargain I don't know what is, especially as a 10-CD Flower Kings box set qualifies you for this.
