What, you mean there's no prog metal in Hell??

It's one of the main things I was looking forward to for when I get there.

Soldato of the Pan Head Mafia. We'll make you an offer you can't listen to.

progmetla is beyond heaven or hell. even god (or the devil if you will) were created by it

@Tuzvihar I see what you did there! even though its not my kind of music..
I was almost through the whole thing when I suddenly had the urge to call my mom and tell that I love her

Don't care for Mastodon or those other bands. Mastodon is quite overrated.

Prog-metal is a relatively recent musical subgenre in history. Even I was born earlier. LOL

Hi,

The Mastodon cut is nice, and considering it just "metal" is probably a really bad description of the band by that piece of music. It simply builds up to a loud and clear ending ... and it was nicely done.

If all you want is screeching vocals and banal guitar licks ... that's another story.

Leprous went out the door right at the start of the vocals ... not even original!

Karnivool is OK in my book. It's just nice listening now and then. At least the usual banal vocals are not there.

Batushka is a rather unoriginal copycat ... that is not my cup of tea, and those vocals are not even the voices of hell ... they are the voices of crazed out folks ... yeah ... that's it ... go get stoned some more ... it might make the music better and make some liturgy of the music!

I liked the Mastodon track t'was indeed very nice although I don't care much for the vocals. The other two remind me too much of every other metallish nu-prog band out there. I get why youngins dig em though.
It's good that we don't listen to the same stuff though. That means an increasing chance to get your hands on the vinyl before your friends!

its interesting that you feel the other 2 tracks are uninspired or unoriginal, cause for me they are obvioulsy quite the opposite ;)

but i agree with you that our different tastes in music is healthy

also: keep them coming!

I don't get why you would refer to awesome things as 'sh*t'. Pretty shallow and fleeting, if you ask me..........I get it, but...............
........and Mastodon aren't that great. Just can't see why so many folks are blown away by them. Good, not great.

Hi,

I was thinking that one MAGMA was enough ... and that Top's version is not that great, and I think it is ... not as good. Probably more wide open and improvised than MAGMA is ... but to my ears, it does not have the depth and the soul that MAGMA brings to the table.

I got it when my teenage boys (almost ten years ago now) explained it to me: "It's the sh*t!" is the equivalent to "It's awesome." Or, what I would rather say: "It's bitchen!"
