This is a test.

Just thought I'd start a thread to see if I could see the 'robot tests' that others speak of and I didn't see anything like that.

Posted By: Easy Money
Date Posted: March 29 2017 at 11:21
Just did a second test (starting a new thread) and still no robot test ... and a third test also did not reveal a robot test.

Just started a 4th thread in a matter of minutes, which is typical over the board spammer activity, and still no robot test.

I deleted all the other test threads.

It's only happened to me once in about 20 posts (since yesterday), and it was my first post of the day (today).

Posted By: Easy Money
Date Posted: March 29 2017 at 13:26
I was under the impression that starting a thread increased the likelihood of the robot test showing up, ... maybe not.

Posted By: mechanicalflattery
Date Posted: March 29 2017 at 14:29
It hasn't happened to me at all, but then I don't start threads, use pictures, or post notably frequently (2 or 3 times a day at most).

Starting a thread, quoting a post, posting anything pasted from a text editor were some of the things that were impossible for me a day or two ago. It hasn't shown up at all today I don't think.

^ Unfortunately it has.   For me it's worst when posting images, and my Find Members Posts function stopped working.

Just did 5 quote tests in a row (all deleted now), still no robot test, got some error messages which I ignored because everything was working.
Ignoring the error messages worked just fine for me.

I still get one when I try to edit my profile although I can post without a problem now. It's probably IP based but also somehow semi-random(?).

Posted By: someone_else
Date Posted: March 30 2017 at 04:20
Just performing a test on semi-randomness. Here is a picture of Alice:

Edit: I had to perform three tests (two by the former pic). It seems that even the number of tests is random.
After the first attempt I got the no-access message and I had to retry. The sooner the site gets rid of this crappy feature, the better will it please me Disapprove.

Just what comes with the latest edition of Windows that I recently downloaded into this ancient cheap Dell, plus a free version of AVG.

Just edited my profile again, plus the above quotes brings the quote total to about 10, plus more posts etc. I started this thread because I wanted to see what the tests look like, but they just aren't happening for me.

No, I recently, or more accurately, a friend of mine recently downloaded 10 into this poor beast. We had to add 7 first to be able to add 10.
In retrospect I should have just bought a new computer that came with 10.

Superfluous error messages are common on all of Max's sites. The hyperlink function at JMA always produces an error message, yet it always works if you ignore the message.

Not so fast. I just got busted by the cyber cops. I had to check the box for two captcha tests in order to respond to the "I really like your review" thread. Better than going through the whole test, but still not great.

How strange, it does show me as using NT 4, which is probably what the computer came with originally. As stated earlier, I downloaded 7 and 10 a few months back.
If the site is reading me as having NT 4, then that might explain why I receive no tests.
I will check that with the newer laptop and see what active users shows on that one.

Okay, I'm on a newer laptop that uses windows 10, and active users still shows me as using NT 4.
I don't know what this computer came with originally because I received it as a gift, but I would guess 7 or 10.

I think 'Someone Else' has figured out why I don't get the robot tests, for whatever reason, the site thinks I'm using NT 4. As to why the site thinks that, I have no idea.

^Maybe something with the IP address. I don't know if the site registers a relationship between IP addresses and operating systems. I'll check what Active Users shows when I'm home again behind my Windows 10 PC, which was originally a Windows 8.1.

Anyway, you're one of the few luckies who is not bothered by this irribuggy feature Wink.

Yet we should look further, I think. My PC at home is also mistaken for Windows 4 NT. It has been upgraded to Windows 10 a little more than 8 months ago. It was originally 8.1. I have never used NT 4.0. My history since I signed up to PA has been with Vista (until November 2014), 8.1 (until July 2016) and 10.

^ checking the active users at any time shows way more NT 4 than you would expect. Apparently the site is faulty in its deciphering. Also, I don't think I ever had NT 4 either. I thought mine started with 5, but I don't recall now.

I can't answer that. Craigslist got rid of their captchas by actually calling their users and talking to them and then adding them to a list. I can't imagine what a monumental task that was.

I guess they don't want robots on this site and for some reason they think that robots don't lie. I mean if you were really a robot and wanted to come on the site what would you say ? It completely destroys my enjoyment of the site and that seems to be the prevailing opinion amongst members judging by posts (-and indeed the lack of posts. Many have already stopped visiting PA until something is done about this sh*t.).

Yep - got the robot test againAngry Identify these nuts why don't ya.

Ok, I've just got my first "I'm not a robot" when posting from home on Firefox.

Was ok earlier when posting on IE. Does browser make a difference?

^ I never get a captcha because apparently the site thinks I'm using windows NT 4, no matter what computer I use. I would imagine it may be something similar for some of you.
Click on the 'active users' link on the forum page and you will see what the site thinks you are using.
Check the conversation between myself and "Someone Else" on the top of page 4 of this thread and you will see where he figured this one out.

I've never had a problem either. Is it because I still correspond via the post? Wink

Nope, at work, I used IE (more or less forced... or at least strongly encouraged) and at home I use Firefox (with adblock on)... and I've been getting these thingies since last Thur of Friday.

I've been asked every time I've posted something since I started posting again... and editing a post made me prove myself twice, it gave me a test before I could actually edit anything, then did it again after I tried to update...

EXCEPT THIS POST YAY.

So, no one found a pattern thus far? No type of machine, router, modem (yes, I'm listing everything I can come up with ), applications (browser, anti-malware), geo-location, type of data in a post, ... ? What parameters did I forget?

And no one found a loophole.

^ Now I cannot edit this post.

Edit: I copied-and-pasted scrobble data (images, bars, and numbers) from my Last.fm page into my posts on the "Monthly Last.fm top 10 lists" thread. I used Chrome, IE11, Microsoft Edge - nothing.
