I've been listening to GAZPACHO for a few months now; DEMON is playing in the background as I write this. GAZPACHO has quickly become my favourite neo-/crossover/symphonic prog bands. I have collected their whole discography and repeatedly listen to each album, with NIGHT, DEMON, MOLOK and, to a lesser extent, TICK TOCK in heavy rotation.

I don't understand how a group of musicians that can create such masterpieces as NIGHT and TICK TOCK find, what appears to be, little to no traction in the music world? It seems that there was a lot of talk in the discussion forums until just before the release of DEMON (2014). What happened? Since the last major GAZPACHO discussion thread, two more phenomenal albums have been released: DEMON (as noted above) and MOLOK (2015). What are your thoughts on these latest releases?

Personally, after a number of listens, both DEMON and MOLOK are deeply, well-crafted albums. The use of varied, obscure instrumentation is captivating, making repeat listening essential and rewarding. Without a doubt, Jan has one of the purest voices I've ever heard, and the percussion is spot on. I particularly enjoy the cohesiveness of the sound and the refreshing absence of extended solo-work. In my humble opinion, both albums rank as unbelievable compositions, in line with NIGHT, by a gifted group of expert instrumentalists.

I am very interested to hear your thoughts on this band that seems to be forever stuck in obscurity.

I fell in love with my first Gazpacho purchase, March of Ghosts, and its still my favorite.  I now have Night, Demon, Tick Tock and Molok as well.  It's say Night and Demon are my faves after March.  Haven't really gotten in to the other two yet, but I haven't had them as long either.

They certainly do their own thing.  As you say, a refreshing absence of extended solo work.
My one concern is that they all seems a bit interchangeable to some degree.
Still, much great stuff.  (I'm not much of a reviewer!)

The Night of the Demon DVD is terrific.  What an intimate affair!  Sadly, LONDON is very hard to find and I haven't seen it.

I agree that there is a similarity between albums.  More of a progressive evolution.  DEMON and MOLOK have a sense of maturity that their earlier work doesn't have, particularly with the use of accordions and "archeological" instrumentation.  Listen carefully to Molok Rising and among other unusual instruments, you can hear stones being struck together.

One of the most solid bands out there, every Gazpacho album is good. I don't think they have reached really great heights with any album, though, but it's been a long time since I last heard them. Molok is very easy to listen to and like. Also, I must have heard the ending of Mary Celeste about 500 times - simply amazing Shocked

Hmmm...tried to get into them a while back and didn't succeed. Going to give Night another listen.

Great band with unique atmosphere and sound. NIGHT is their "Masterpiece" album (IMO) , but they have another great albums too. I really like them.

In my opinion the Norwegian Gazpacho has quite many similar strengths than h-era Marillion, atmospheric and emotional, peacefully growing songs. I've been listening to them for a couple of years now, and find many of their albums simply excellent "fireplace/red wine"-music.

For some reason the album Night is often mentioned as their masterpiece, but I wasn't so blown away by that. But especially Missa atropos (their best IMO), Tick tock, March of ghosts and also the newest Molok all have their extremely fine moments.

Could the relative obscurity of Gazpacho (and many other excellent Swedish bands such as Anekdoten, Kaipa, Moon Safari) be due to the fact that they are Scandinavian? I guess British bands have some kind of an advantage to become internationally well-known.

Exact, often excellent, but not reaching the master piece level so far IMHO. Gazpacho still lacks that little thing that I would call the WOW factor... But I look forward to their next album!
