So, I've been waiting for a while for a new album from them. Does anybody know if it will happen any time soon?

Himlabacken Vol. 2 is in the making, but will take some more time...

At this point, I have to wonder if it'll meet expectations once it comes out.

've been waiting for a new albums for few years. Just like waiting for Half Life 3 or Portal 3. Just not so long.

And the question of its qualities? Well, either it's another super album like those before it, or it's "just" good (but still very good). That's how I see it.

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

Most good bands will give at least 2/3 years before the next album.   Unless they recorded more material that warranted another album a year later.  I'm more into originality in an album,  rather then the same stuff repeated over and over.

^ That doesn't exclude each other. You have bands which produce good albums with innovative themes every 2 years. Take MS albums, from first album in 2005 it's been 3-2-3 years and now 4 years and nothing. That's why I am anxious to see a new album by now.

Let's take Skelleftea Serenade as a proper album, though being of EP size and just 24 minutes long. Though it would make a good addition on Himlabacken vol. 1 (if it was added as 9th track, the album would be some 70 minutes long - still good size).

But hey, talking about originality and Moon Safari? They're good, probably a Prog I listen to a most, but originality is not the attribute for which I admire them.

Blomljud is a beautiful album.  I gravitate toward the moodier, melancholy-er, minor-keyed music, and a cousin of mine who is into progressive music told me to listen to Blomljud.  He said something like "It's the happiest, most upbeat prog you'll ever hear."  I was immediately turned-off, hahaha.

But I listened to it and was BLOWN AWAY.
