Okay.

I love Entangled.

But can someone explain to me why everyone seems to worship it with such a passion?

I don't see how it's any more special than Ripples or Mad Mad Moon, so please somebody help me out Confused

I'm not a hater or anything, it's just I don't see the way a lot of people seem to do, some preferring it over even Watcher of the Skies. What's the huge appeal that I'm missing? What secret formula, and what other songs employ this formula to make themselves more appealing?

Everyone??

I doubt it. There is certainly a lot of love for the track, but overall I wouldn't say there is any more love for it among fans overall than the other track you mention.

It's like saying why does everyone love potatoes? They're no better than turnips. It's all down to personal taste. It clearly doesn't chime as much with you personally as it may do with others. There's no mystery to it.

For me it is a classic, but I probably prefer Dance on a volcano, Los Endos, possibly even Squonk off that album, but the magic of Entangled for me is mainly in that incredible outro. Thenoverall song is very good, altough I think the lyrucs sound a little... awkward..Just my personal view.

I love all three songs you mentioned----used to love Ripples because of Steve's guitar part at the end---then Entangled because of the dreamy aspect of it and the big mellotron sound----finally settled on Mad Man Moon as perhaps my current fav of the three----but all 3 have a special magic.

Hmm
I thought this sounded familiar.  Have a look at http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=102811&KW=entangled" rel="nofollow - this thread.  The wording of the original post is EXACTLY the same

Mad Man Moon followed by Volcano are my fave songs off the album, but Entangled is cool because the instrumental break is drenched in mellotron Wink

I find it a very nice song... but not nearly my very favourite Genesis songs. Still, I do like it better than the songs you mentioned, but that is mostly because I don't like those ones so much. From the same era, I like much better, and find more special, "One for the Vine".

I'm not sure who "worships" it per se, but It's a nice song. It starts out with charm and ends with grandeur.

BTW, we've had this exact same thread before, but I was not able to find it after a quick search.

Yep.....and I did read your post citing the link and the exact same wording..... very odd , so it must be the same poster or he just lifted the OP.
At any rate I have never found the song particularly interesting at all .

Regardless of whether the thread was there before or not... Entangled is a typical example for qualities in music that are very subjective and hard to describe. There's a certain irrational magic in this that some people get and some people don't. It just has to do with the "wavelength" on which people are operating. I get it, great song for me, but I'm at a loss explaining what exactly it is I like about it. And I don't want to say anything negative about the people who don't get it... often enough what some other people find magical fails me.

it depends on the turnip.  When the turnip is really good, the potatoe knows its place, and must simply step aside  Big smile

Parsnips are tasty little suckers!
I'll have to try them with honey some time.

Back to the song - haunting, ethereal, the synth solo/mellotron towards the end - perfect concoction!

I like it because of the way it leads into Squonk, its extreme opposite musically. It was a clever pairing that added to the depth of the album.
