Of all the topics in PA, I don't think this one was posted. Aside from asking what types of music people like, why do suppose people like listening to music in the first place? What is it about these vibrations in the air that gives us some much pleasure.  Simply put, why do people like music? And if you just dig music and care little about the mystery behind it, that's fine.

That's a good question Steve.....no idea,  and I would ask also is it an innate human thing or a learned behavior? I'm betting there are numerous papers/studies on this on the web.

I believe music was originally invented to drown out droning wives and annoying in-laws. It still works 100,000 years later, particularly thanks to electronic amplification.

Apparently it's all about natural human drugs that get released.

The first thing that came ot my mind is that music brings emotion with it, and - just like stories for example - we can really empathize (if that's the good word) with the story it brings. Songs (should) have a story to be told and a message to be understood, and I think that's what we want.

After re-thinking this can't be really the one reason. One can also just like a sound, like just a chord being played.
It does sort of bring something with it...
Too vague. It reminds of something, you can relate it to a kind of feeling. Normal, natural sounds don't have a recognizeable pattern like a song or chords or melodies (for ex. the sound of rain, wind etc. and not whistling of birds, which already is more a pleasure to hear), and music in any form is perfectly ordered. It's right, in balance and feels nice.

It's the same thing with every sense, we can be changed our moods by seeing, smelling, tasting, feeling things. Why exactly is natural I think, everything you normally, naturally experience is disorder, chaos. And because there's put energy in something (thought about, made to something by purpose) it feels right and better than what you could ever just happen.

Hmmm... Stays a little vague tho....

I do believe it's in human nature.Normally. But the prob of my theory is that i do know at least one person who doesn't care about listening to music or not.Maybe is he not human...
Finally i can't tell for now

The question is why did I suddenly love Randy Rhoads' playing when I was fifteen for no apparent reason other than that it was thrilling and made me want to do it myself.   It is a mystery, I suppose.

For me, music can help me relieve my worry and anger. I would like to listen to music especially when I'm not happy. And after listening to music, I felt much happier.

Becouse it takes you places inside your mind which you wouldent have come to, its spontanious nature seperates it from its art kins painting av and poetry, that it occupies space inside a periode of time, and then gone, it have the power tongrap ontu you with such force, becouse it is immideate, its sudden. painting which is captured on a canvas is a locked frame of art thqt can be seen over and over, music if not played is gone and is onoy existing when its activated.
