Been on vacation for a week and incommunicado, didn't watch any TV or listen to news at all. Found out today that Chris Squire passed away! One of the greatest bass players ever, in any genre. Played it like a lead instrument, similar by different from Entwistle...I will never forget the first time I heard Roundabout and that galloping Rickenbacker bass, or the Long Distance Runaround/the Fish, or that bass build-up at the end of Starship Trooper. Too bad there was a falling-out between he and Anderson, and they never got to reunite before the end. The classic albums of the seventies (TYA thru GFTO) was the best stretch of music in prog for me, coming from one band... Also thought Keys to Ascension and Magnification were very solid albums as well...Yes were one of the few 70's prog bands I never got to see...hate it, but it just never worked out... The man left a great legacy of fine music behind...I cannot imagine how prog would have developed without him and his bandmates... RIP, Chris. We'll miss you.

Chris was (and still) my bass hero. I was absolutely devastated last Sunday when I heard the news. RIP. ------------- "A squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous. Got me?" |

I've hardly mourned a musician as I have Chris. I play bass, and I feel we've been left orphans... -------------

He left us with a lot to remember him by. I don't believe anyone will ever surpass his greatness.

| One of the greatest bass players/ singers/songwriters for me... He was the body of Yes and we owe him a lot of great music.. It's the first time that I get genuinly saddened bu a musicians' death. You will be foundly remembered Chris, RIP. |
